Elon Musk just defended America better than every politician in Washington combined. Musk: “After World War 2, the US could have basically taken over the world and any country. Like we got nukes, nobody else got nukes. We don’t even have to lose soldiers. Which country do you want?” One nation on earth held a weapon nobody else had. Total dominance. Zero competition. No risk of retaliation. Every empire in history that held that kind of advantage used it. Rome. The Mongols. The British. The Ottomans. They conquered until they collapsed. America had a bigger advantage than all of them combined. And it rebuilt the countries it just defeated. Musk: “The United States actually helped rebuild countries. So it helped rebuild Europe, it helped rebuild Japan. This is very unusual behavior, almost unprecedented.” Almost unprecedented? It had never happened before. Not once in 5,000 years of recorded history. The Marshall Plan wasn’t foreign aid. It was the most radical act of restraint any superpower ever committed. America turned its enemies into allies. Turned rubble into economies. Turned surrender into partnership. Germany went from ashes to the economic engine of Europe in a generation. Japan went from unconditional surrender to the third largest economy on earth. Three years after the war, America was flying food into Berlin. A city in the heart of the nation that just tried to destroy it. That’s not policy. That’s a civilization deciding what it is at the exact moment it has the power to be anything. You’re being told a story right now. That America is the villain of history. You hear it everywhere. Media. Universities. Social platforms. Musk: “There’s always like, well America’s done bad things. Well of course America’s done bad things, but one needs to look at the whole track record.” Every nation on earth has dark chapters. Every single one. The difference is what a country does when nobody can stop it. And when nobody could stop America, it fed its enemies and rebuilt their cities. Musk: “The history of China suggests that China is not acquisitive. Meaning they’re not going to go out and invade a whole bunch of countries.” Probably right. China has historically built walls, not fleets. But the real question isn’t about borders anymore. We’re approaching a moment that mirrors 1945 in ways nobody has fully processed yet. AI is going to give a handful of people a power advantage that makes nuclear monopoly look quaint. If someone is going to hold that kind of power, who do you want it to be? The country that conquered when it could? Or the one that rebuilt when it didn’t have to? Every alliance. Every trade route. Every economy. Billions lifted out of poverty. All of it traces back to one act of restraint that had never been done before. And carries no guarantee of being repeated. The most powerful thing America ever did wasn’t building the bomb. It was what it didn’t do after.

Exactly correct. The talent to compartmentalize and focus without noise is very rare and a talent very few people have Not a good or bad thing, just a reality of life Usually requires some other life condition , like OCD, and luck to hit it really big. We are just fortunate to have a system of government that didn’t shut them down because they couldn’t outthink them. I hope we continue to have the good sense to encourage the best and brightest to imagine and create.

Kevin O'Leary: The 80/20 signal-to-noise rule Steve Jobs & Elon Musk used to outperform everyone "I used to work for Steve Jobs in the early 90s making all of his educational software. I would say, 'Steve, we've got to do some market research on Oregon Trail. It's in 110,000 school buildings. It's going to cost you 12-15 million bucks. We want to find out what the students want, what the teachers want, what the parents want.'" O'Leary shares Steve's response: "Steve would say, by the way, not a nice guy, not a nice guy, he would say to a room full of people: 'Kevin, I don't give a shit what the students want or the parents think or anybody thinks. It's what I want. They don't know what they want till I tell them what they want.'" O'Leary pushed back: "I said, 'Steve, you sound like such an asshole. You have no idea what that sounds like.' He said, 'No, no, that's how it is, Kevin. Are you making money with me? Am I your fastest growing OEM? Have we not been wildly successful and continue to be?' I said, 'Yes, Steve, that's true.' He said, 'Then shut up and do what I say.' That's how he would talk to you. 100%." O'Leary explains what he learned: "There's a concept that he understood that very few people focused on back then, signal-to-noise ratio. His vision of signal was the top 3 to 5 things you have to get done in the next 18 hours. Not your vision for the business next week or next month or next year. Just the next 18 hours you're awake. You're going to get those 3 to 5 things done that you have deemed critical for your mission. They must get done today. Anything that stops you from doing that is the noise." He shares the ratio that made Jobs successful: "For Steve Jobs, the signal to noise ratio to be successful was 80/20. 80% signal, 20% noise. And I knew that to be true with him because he would email me at 2:30 in the morning and expect me to get back to him." O'Leary compares Jobs to one other person: "The only other person I've seen with a higher ratio than that is Elon Musk. He has no noise. He does not deal with noise. He is 100% signal. 24 seconds of every 30 seconds. 60 seconds of every minute. 60 minutes of every hour. The 18 hours he's awake, it's all signal. And look what he's achieved." He acknowledges the tradeoff: "That's very awkward for him socially, because noise is dealing with your family sometimes. Noise is saying hi to a friend. Noise is doom scrolling on social media. Maybe playing your guitar. But very few people on Earth, and if you go back in history, you'll find that the geniuses of their time were close to 100% signal." O'Leary shares another example: "Bezos will not make a decision after 1:00 in the afternoon, because he felt that the noise was too high. The signal for him was in the morning hours." He summarizes the lesson: "This is a crucial aspect of success that I now understand. It defines an entrepreneur. A man or woman that understands the signal-to-noise ratio, that focuses on that, they'll be successful. The ones that can't, that get down to a 50/50 signal to noise, they'll fail. It's that simple."

@TukiFromKL Ok. Then why do we need to increase the population ? Why not let it fall to levels like 4 billion naturally and reduce births thus saving the overcrowded planet and the resources on it for the inhabitants

🚨 Elon said all jobs will be optional. Everyone's calling him crazy. This is the same guy who said he'd make electric cars mainstream. They laughed. He did it. Said he'd land rockets back on earth. They laughed. He did it. Said he'd put internet in space. They laughed. 7,000 satellites later, soldiers in Ukraine depend on it. Said Twitter was overstaffed. Fired 80%. The app still works. Now Karpathy just scored every job in America against AI. If your work touches a screen, you're already replaceable. Every time this man says something insane, the world catches up 3 years later. You're not mad because he's wrong.. nah you're mad because you know he's not.
Elon Musk@elonmusk

@_kaitodev @garrytan @karpathy All jobs will be optional. There will be universal high income.

@CBSNews And that is why mainstream news is failing. They are looking for reasons it is not true, rather than trying to determine what is true! RIP to MSM… gonzo journalist and long form interviews are the new reputable news formats.

A recent video by conservative YouTuber Nick Shirley alleged nearly a dozen day care centers in Minnesota that are receiving public funds are not actually providing any service. After the video went viral, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem announced a "massive investigation on childcare and other rampant fraud" in the state. CBS News conducted its own analysis of nearly a dozen day care centers mentioned by Shirley: all but two have active licenses, according to state records, and all active locations were visited by state regulators within the last six months. CBS News' review also found dozens of citations related to safety, cleanliness, equipment, and staff training, among other violations, but there was no recorded evidence of fraud.

Seriously, can someone explain in real terms why it matters if the population drops to 6 or 4 billion and stays at that level? The planet population is destroying the planet environment and quality of life. Just look at the massive population centers. Much higher crime and discontent. With AI and Robots coming quickly and jobs going away, I really don’t see the issue with population decreasing

Sorry, why do we need to have a growing population when the world is crowded and the resources and employment opportunities are decreasing? If the planet has 4 or 5 billion it seems fine with me. Besides, aren’t we talking about UBI as an alternative to employment? Lastly, creating babies from egg and sperm donors seems entirely sustainable and easy. If we need more people than just manufacture them.

If the population can be managed and cultivated at will by artificial egg and sperm harvest, why is this a problem for humanity? I thought the planet did just fine with 4 billion people on it. Also, if AI and Robotics are going to make work optional for humans, what will all of the growing population do except play video games and drugs to placate themselves. Less people will provide more outdoor space and nature for those who are here and if there is a need for more population later, than just manufacture it.

Yep. A very big loophole that should be easily closed but the code is not written to be fair and the politicians are not interested in offending their wealthy bases. Make all trusts , foundations and other loopholes expire in due time. Just like term limits , this will not happen easily

Please explain why the population has to grow considering AI and robotics will displace most workers worldwide and we will have challenges with mental health as people try to find self worth and resources are already challenged. How does more people on UBI a boom to society. I am thinking 4 billion seems like a better population than’ 8 or 10 billion.
