@Flux_cc A Re-Tool on the Fly would have worked "IF" we started it in 20' or 21' when the Core 3 was around 32 & 33yrs old & had a group of young players when they turned 35ish. We just started it too late. Like I've been saying for 8yrs.

After a night with my thoughts, I still stand by everything I said here. Obviously, we'd have to be cap compliant and you don't just move people for the heck of it, but we have to get significantly younger, and more impactful youth at that. The re-tool on the fly I was all for, at first, to give Sid & the core one more run, but this is how they performed, so no thank you. It just doesn't really work out. With the Caps re-tool, they make the playoffs, get swept in round 1, then they missed the playoffs. That's what we have waiting for us. The Rags re-tooled on the fly to extend their window with their core, did nothing with it, and have now sent out a 2nd letter to the fans and are rebuilding again. Maybe the re-tool on the fly can work with the perfect storm, but we know that getting youth up and sucking for some high picks works to bring you back to contention with youth (i.e. Montreal Canadiens). If Dubas really wants to contend for the Cup again, do it right. The balancing act of rebuilding while trying to give the current roster an opportunity each season is just delaying when we finally do actually get back to contention.
