I received a call from Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada, this evening. I thanked him for Canada’s endorsement of Pakistan’s efforts in facilitating the U.S.–Iran ceasefire and talks. I reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to advancing regional peace and stability. We also agreed to strengthen Pakistan–Canada cooperation especially in trade and investment in agriculture, clean energy, mines and minerals. I also extended an invitation to Prime Minister Carney to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at a mutually convenient time. @MarkJCarney

From facilitator to mediator — Pakistan 🇵🇰 has stepped up as a key diplomatic bridge in the US–Iran talks, reinforcing its growing regional role in peacebuilding and dialogue. A strong example of proactive diplomacy shaping global outcomes. 🌍🤝 #Diplomacy #Pakistan #USIran

Pakistan’s role has shifted from facilitator and go-between to direct mediator and peace negotiator (amid reports of 3-way talks taking place in Islamabad). For now at least, Pakistan’s in the driver’s seat in the difficult & delicate effort to guide the US & Iran to an off ramp.

Pakistan has led from the front, from beginning to end, on several weeks of frenetic, high-stakes regional facilitation efforts. Why and how was Pakistan, of all countries, able to occupy this prominent role? This week ⁦@ForeignPolicy⁩: foreignpolicy.com/2026/04/08/pak…

For almost a year after a brief armed conflict with Pakistan, India has been trying to portray its nuclear-armed neighbor as a sponsor of terrorism that shouldn’t be trusted by other governments bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Violations of ceasefire have been reported at few places across the conflict zone which undermine the spirit of peace process. I earnestly and sincerely urge all parties to exercise restraint and respect the ceasefire for two weeks, as agreed upon, so that diplomacy can take a lead role towards peaceful settlement of the conflict. @realDonaldTrump @JDVance @SecRubio @SteveWitkoff @SEPeaceMissions @drpezeshkian @mb_ghalibaf @araghchi

I welcome the two-week ceasefire the US and Iran agreed last night. It brings much-needed de-escalation. I thank Pakistan for its mediation. Now it is crucial that negotiations for an enduring solution to this conflict continue. We will continue coordinating with our partners to this end.
