@harrisonbodrie @itslaylas There’s also a distinct and clear jail employee-to-LCSW pipeline that is very hard to ignore. You can quickly clock which LCSWs started as jail employees. They don’t go into social work because they genuinely want to do good. They just see it as the next step in their career.

ICE is rapidly hiring social workers. I’m studying for my license and receive these ads constantly. these jobs are flagged as “above average” with significantly higher salaries compared to your typical social work job. disturbing.

@WIcentrist @SPESSMAN_ @ChaosSupreme666 @thosegrose Also, there was actually a huge push in academia to use he/she in place of “they” for a certain period. It was clunky as hell. I anecdotally see it sometimes in educators between ages 45-60. Educators prior to this used “they” when appropriate.

@ughfinewhatever This is an aspect of my post-COVID aphasia. I have always had a big vocabulary because I like precision but now I’m mixing up words and don’t catch it. It’s maddening.

one thing I notice about the literacy crisis is that people will say words that sound like the word they want but mean something completely different because the focus is on sound and not spelling for example I just heard someone say the word confiscate when they meant compensate

@blvvnt_mp3 @latkedelrey She has to bill using CPT codes for the type of appointment. In her contract with insurance, it lists all the codes and their reimbursement rates. A 30 min appt is a different code than a 60 min appt, with different rates. But she may do 45 min appt that’s not covered.

before i got my insurance i checked 3x that my doctor and the specific medication she prescribes were covered. they ran it through the system. said yes. TIL they cover HER and the medication, they do not cover the *type of appointment* in which she meets with me and prescribes it

@JamesEsses I just had a mandatory cultural sensitivity training yesterday and this was a focus. I don’t know if it’s ever happened, but I will say we truly have a population in my area that we need to understand how to work with and they were not covered *at all*.

Almost every ‘microaggression’ training I’m provided with includes the scenario of a white person approaching a black person and saying “Oh my God, I love your hair…can I touch it?” before proceeding to touch their hair. In the history of man, has this ever actually happened?

@_redcoloratura_ @genzalternative @elizabethbelsky If your kid’s disabilities/chronic illnesses/immunocompromised state routinely means they are absolutely depleted by school, which in most instances is a daily thing, like 8a-3p, and schools are hard-pressed to grant exceptions to that attendance, it’s better for them to be home.

I used to think homeschooling was fine. I now think it should be illegal with zero exceptions, and that faith-based homeschoolers need weekly visits from CPS. Isolating your kids from the daily oversight of mandated reporters should be a red flag in the child welfare system.

@LauraMiers @umairh 1918 was mostly bacterial pneumonia, mainly from masking. And Covid mortality was on par with influenza at less than 0.5% mortality. You can cure your psychosis, but you have to want to ;)
