@PropaneMan92 @mattwridley SARSCOV2 came from a lab. COVID vaccines cause thrombosis and myocarditis. It's all documented in impeccable sources. You're entitled to your own beliefs of course, but these are facts.

We warned scientists not to squander people’s trust. Investigate the lab leak Don’t overclaim for vaccines Don’t demand lockdowns Don’t worship models Don’t be dogmatic Encourage debate They have only themselves to blame.
Simon Maechling@simonmaechling

The collapse of trust in science is going to go down in history as one of the most sad, bizarre, and destructive social contagions of modern times. We fed billions, cured diseases and powered nations - yet people ran toward conspiracies instead.

@mattwridley Simon has a point. The over-correction we're seeing will have serious consequences. Still, your point is well made. This is NPR running interference for rioters in June 2020. Nobody in the public health establishment objected at the time, and now they just ignore it.

@WKCosmo I like that. The ratios of the districts must be brought as close to each other as possible (so no need to set arbitrary thresholds like 5). So minimize the maximum value of (Li/sqrt(Ai)) - (sqrt(Aj)/Lj) for all i,j district pairings

We could solve gerrymandering in one go if we passed a law setting a maximum ratio of perimeter-to-surface area for districts.

@normal_testes @threekardashevs You're simply wrong and don't understand the basics It's not a "two player game" - it's *two strategies* and the payoffs are for picking each strategy Every individual is facing this payoff matrix

This twitter classic "red button / blue button" [everyone who picks blue dies unless more than 50% do; everyone who picks red lives] question is cursed but we've learned a lot about people since it went around on the timeline the last time First to get this out of the way - there is zero actual reason to push blue - none - there is no "payoff to cooperation" being modeled since the payoff on offer - not dying - is the same for both choices. The only rational reason to pick blue is that you *hope* less than 50% of people pick blue so you can end your life and escape the person who is putting you in contrived hypotheticals for his own amusement With that out of the way - what we've learned in the 2 years since this hit the timeline the first time is that many, many people are simply next token predictors and when they see this example they say they will pick the "cooperative" choice (which isn't actually that!) We have also learned that when confronted with the stupidity of this position, they will simply costlessly double down and "argue" about it forever rather than admit error Really, the question is extremely revealing

It is unusual for a grand jury to no bill, and usually a sign of a grossly incompetent prosecutor or investigating officer. Federal cases are often quite strong but less so in this administration.

Grand juries are not an especially good protection from baseless indictments, because only one side presents argument and evidence, the standard is probable cause, and the result need not be unanimous. They are a useful tool for the government to gather evidence, mostly.
Eric Matheny 🎙️@ericmmatheny

Donald Trump did not indict the Southern Poverty Law Center. A grand jury did, based on evidence presented. The Democrat talking points are completely false.

Maybe Chinese officers will get one year of free credit report monitoring like I got when they stole my SF-86.

If this is real, it could be one of the largest data breaches in China’s history. A hacker group claims it extracted over 10 petabytes of data from a state-run supercomputing facility, widely believed by experts to be the National Supercomputing Center in Tianjin. This center supports thousands of clients, including research institutes, aerospace programs, and defense-linked organizations. What’s reportedly in the data: - Documents marked “secret” in Chinese - Missile and bomb schematics - Aerospace and aviation research - Bioinformatics and fusion simulation data - Files linked to major state entities like AVIC and COMAC Cybersecurity experts who reviewed sample data say it matches what you would expect from such a facility, though the full breach is not independently verified. Even more concerning: - The attacker claims access lasted months without detection - Sample datasets were posted online via Telegram - Full access is reportedly being sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars in crypto At this stage, the scale and origin are still being verified. But if even partially true, it points to a serious vulnerability in infrastructure tied to China’s scientific and defense ecosystem. If a centralized system like this can be penetrated, what does that say about the security of the data it was processing? #China #Cybersecurity #CCP #DataBreach #Geopolitics #Tech cnn.com/2026/04/08/chi…

@ronstauffer @shipwreckedcrew I had a law partner do the opposite once. 50+ pages where he redlined the extra space after each sentence. That was his only edit. Probably billed $1000+ to client.

Robert is thirty-six years old. In 1247, this is not young. Robert knows this. His knees know this. His back has known this since approximately 1239. Robert lives in a village in Worcestershire with his wife Agnes, three surviving children, and two chickens he is not allowed to eat because the chickens produce eggs and the eggs matter more than the chickens. Today is a Tuesday in March. Robert will describe it as a Tuesday in March. The concept of a 'week' as a unit of leisure is not yet something Robert has access to. 5:00am - Up. Pottage on the fire. The pottage is oats, leeks, and some dried parsnip from the autumn store. There is a small piece of salted pork in it, approximately the size of Robert's thumb. It is mostly flavouring. Robert eats around it for as long as possible, then eats it, then thinks about it for the rest of the morning. 6:00am - Field. Robert works the lord's strip first, then his own. The ground is still cold. His boots have a hole. He has had the hole since October. He has packed it with rags. The rags are wet. They will remain wet until June. Robert is technically eating a plant-based diet. He is not doing this by choice. He is doing this because meat belongs to the lord, the deer belong to the king's forest, and the last man in this village who was caught with an unlicensed rabbit spent a period in the stocks that his family still doesn't fully discuss. 10:00am - Brief rest. Rye bread, hard. A small onion. Robert thinks about the pig that was slaughtered in November. He thinks about this often. The memory of fat is a specific and enduring thing when you don't have much of it. 1:00pm - Back to the field. Robert's average daily calorie intake is somewhere between 1,500 and 2,000 calories, the majority from grain. He is doing agricultural labour that modern exercise scientists would classify as extremely high intensity. He is, measurably, running on insufficient fuel. He is aware of this in the way that you are aware of things that cannot be changed: completely, and without drama. 4:00pm - Home. Agnes has made more pottage. It is similar to this morning's pottage. Robert eats it. Robert's teeth hurt. They have hurt for two years. There is no dentist. There is a barber-surgeon in the market town seven miles away. Robert cannot afford the barber-surgeon and cannot take the day from the fields. His teeth continue to hurt. 7:00pm - Sleep. Robert will be awake again at five. He is thirty-six. He will probably not see forty. The leading cause of death for men in his position is a combination of infection, injury, and the slow arithmetic of malnutrition across a lifetime. Somewhere, eight hundred years from now, someone will describe Robert's diet as "ancestral," "plant-forward," and "aligned with the earth." Robert would have a great deal to say about this. Robert does not have the energy.
