What David Tennant did yesterday was to speak up for the LGBTQ+ community in as strong a way as those voices against us have been getting in recent years, including Kemi Badenoch. Don’t like it? Try being a gay person or a trans person, try being a woman having real sexism used against you, try being a victim of racism. He didn’t say those words yesterday because of her race OR her gender (and I suspect that most people saying this, already know that), yet both were instantly thrown at him. That would make it impossible to ever criticise Kemi without being labelled either of those things surely? Why shouldn’t we be able to tell people to shut up if they are causing real violence and an increase in attacks against our community? Why?

Freedom of speech is a powerful feature of democracy, David Tennant used his to take a stand for those that Tory culture wars have put at increased risk of being harmed or killed. A government is supposed to represent EVERY citizen. Badenoch should do so, or leave her job.
