@DeTomPlays @dyrkabes More recently, the rougelike genre has come to mean any game that has perma-death, encouraging the player to make multiple runs as they learn the game systems, and procedurally-generated or randomised levels. Rougelite is a subgenre features some degree of carry-over future runs

@dyrkabes I still don't fully understand the term roguelike, it seems to be getting used for so many different types of games at the moment. But hey, if someone added your game to their roguelike collection, just go with it, the more hype the better, even if it is a little confusing.

One player on itch added Incremental RTS to their roguelikes collection I was first super confused. Why would it be a roguelike? Till I realized that the game has some components of rogue light.. very very LIGHT :D like starting over, building factories anew It is nothing like roguelikes as I see them but maybe I was not promoting the game to another possible audience?

@DeTomPlays @dyrkabes Well, it's based on the original game Rouge, which was a text-based dungeon crawler from the 80s, with procedurally generated dungeons and perma-death. It was punishing and you were expected to play lots of short runs, die and try again. (1/2)

Jammin Games - Gunship Origins
To be honest, I don't really know how to set people's expectations accurately. Some people seem to want AAA graphics quality from a tiny indie studio, and they let us know that in every YouTube video comment they make. 😅 I think we'll punch above our weight, don't get me wrong. I brought on my brother just to improve visuals and that's what he's focused on. But I'm also much more interested in investing in compelling gameplay that stands the test of time, rather than just pretty graphics. And we only have the time we have. If this game is to ever come out, we'll have to make some tradeoffs somewhere. That's enough of that. Back to work!

Its really important as indies to not get hung up on what anyone else is making, especially if similar to yours. If you're doing it right, your game should stand proud on its own. Finding unexplored game ideas is nigh impossible nowadays. The trick is to make it your own. 🫡
