Jammin Games - Gunship Origins

I'm delighted to announce that I've partnered with @micro_prose in a publishing deal for my combat helicopter game! It will be released as Gunship Origins; the first Gunship title published by MicroProse in over 25 years. As a huge fan of MicroProse games in the 90s, this couldn't be a better fit. I'm absolutely pumped about it.

To be honest, I don't really know how to set people's expectations accurately. Some people seem to want AAA graphics quality from a tiny indie studio, and they let us know that in every YouTube video comment they make. 😅 I think we'll punch above our weight, don't get me wrong. I brought on my brother just to improve visuals and that's what he's focused on. But I'm also much more interested in investing in compelling gameplay that stands the test of time, rather than just pretty graphics. And we only have the time we have. If this game is to ever come out, we'll have to make some tradeoffs somewhere. That's enough of that. Back to work!

@jammingames Doubt if all people like vision full of light and high resolution texture, we have been too tired in working, give us simple and lighter duty in gameplay is also good.

@jammingames Were reaching diminishing returns with graphic fidelity these days, gameplay depth is the differentiator. I still play modded skyrim, the graphics are as good as I need for an RPG.

@jammingames If you look at the majority of fire in a bottle indie games they all shelved graphics for stylistic "lower quality". Leave photorealism for aaa interactive novel type games. People want to enjoy the depth of a game through mechanics, (topical) content and gameplay.

@jammingames Gameplay uber alles. Give me Microprose old-school campaign/career mode combined with a medium-deep sim and you get...bliss. :)

@jammingames It already looks great. Hope I can play it on my laptop. No need for ps5 visuals. It's a pc game for niche enthusiasts.

@jammingames The way things are advancing with technology, in a couple years I'm willing to bet you can use an AI program to keep everything the same as you made it, but enhance the graphics. I don't think AI will ever replace video game designers, however it will just be another tool to use

@jammingames You'll never make everyone happy. Stick to your GDD, make something you're proud of, then make it amazing. If you build it...

@damsonwastaken @jammingames This. A lot of the people that would tell you how to make your game were never going to buy it anyway. I however have wishlisted it and really look forward to it coming out 🫡

@damsonwastaken Exactly. DCS is amazing! It's just not the game I wanted to make (I'd just play DCS if that was the case.)

@jammingames To add more - for someone craving for popeye graphics and realsim - they already have DCS. Why are they looking for more? Gunship Origins tries to bring back mentality of the golden era of flight sims from the 90s. And it's on a right track IMHO.

@jammingames It doesn't even need to be as realistic as MSFS or support the entire globe, it's just got to support multiplayer & have some cool missions that can be added over time. Plus it works with the Logitech 🕹️, the Honeycomb gear & many of us have these for Drone games & FPV

@jammingames Would be cool for a post 1.0 idea, for when a chopper is shot at, gunners and pilots actually slump if hit, or have basic hit animations. I mean, it would also be cool to see them rattle round if the chopper is hit and going down.
