If the high end for this type of construction is usually $800/sq ft, why is Dallas paying a 100% premium? We need transparency on where this extra $2B is going. #Dallas #Taxpayers #KBHCCD

The new Dallas Convention Center construction is budgeted at $4B for 2.5M sq ft. That’s $1,600 per square foot. 🏛️💸

@KBTDallasCM @KBHCCDallas @CityOfDallas Dallas is spending nearly $4B on a new convention center to "compete" with Vegas. Reality check: Vegas doesn't win because its halls are the newest—it wins because of the ecosystem. You can't out-build an entire city’s identity with one shiny building.

Spending is out of control. $51,250,000 eco dev grant + $3,240,000 developer fee + $2,750,000 already spent __________________________ $57,240,000 total approved by city council on a 13-2 vote to build the WNBA @DallasWings practice facility. (I was a no)
Cara Mendelsohn 🟦@caraathome

Council Member Cara Mendelsohn (District 12) called it “another failed real estate project that we have not delivered on time or on budget.” The city’s track record has been spotty when it comes to real estate projects, to say the least. candysdirt.com/2026/03/24/cou…

The vote to approve the $55 million practice facility for the women’s basketball team was 12–2, with Councilmember @ridleyfordallas and me voting no. "We have serious, serious budget concerns in this city. It's shocking, honestly, how much money is being spent on things like this," said Mendelsohn. And note: the $55 million does not include the cost to renovate the arena, which the City is also funding. This amount is just for the practice facility.

I want to congratulate my opponents for a spirited campaign, and say THANK YOU to our volunteers and voters. We have incredible energy and momentum that led to our commanding first-place finish with over 49% of the vote in a field of nine, despite the millions spent against us. I am grateful for the support of President Trump as we continue our fight for the America First agenda for the people of #TX32. We will win the runoff. We will unite the GOP. We will take on the radical left this November. And WE WILL WIN!

Dallas leadership has shown an utter lack of transparency or competence with every real estate venture it’s made in the past decade. We don’t even have a budget for the new convention center (that we don’t need). Further, the city does not maintain anything it owns from streets to buildings. I agree, we need hard numbers and professional analysis of the structural integrity of City Hall and all the other repairs it needs. But we need to understand this issue in the historical context of gross top-down mismanagement at all levels of our municipal government. I simply do not believe the current leadership, as well-meaning as they might be, has the capacity to make this decision. They simply are not mentally capable of it. Look around at our crumbling city and every city-owned property as proof. After seeing the numbers, the public must be informed of the dire and catastrophic state of the city’s finances. Then, we should put it to the voters to decide city hall’s fate. Can the city really afford to build a new city hall or develop the land it sits on when it’s broke? Pension liabilities are skyrocketing exponentially in the coming years. There is over $15B in deferred maintenance on our roads. We are saddled with over $9B in debt. This will reach a breaking point eventually. And the public needs to be informed of these realities so an educated decision can be made about City Hall. With that in mind, I’d wager people will lean more towards repairing it out of sheer economic pragmatism than scraping and selling it.

My right brain agrees with Shawn Todd. My left brain wants to see hard numbers, including a plan/proposal on where another city hall would go. This isn't a "development project." Its a civic building and tax payers deserve transparency by @CityOfDallas leaders. dallasnews.com/opinion/commen…

@DallasDirtCandy @MatthewMarchant When I asked about low income apartments at the meeting, Lee Kleinman specifically said that there was not going to be any subsidized apartments at this development.
