No one said to not upgrade the protocol There is just a last ditch resort in case quantum breakthroughs jump scare the system FYI you can just have BTC transferred to this scheme once and then spend it in a lightning style network

After seeing an avalanche of "eat it quantum FUDsters, Bitcoin doesn't need to upgrade" it's clear no one has read the paper past the title (got to give it to @StarkWareLtd for a brilliant marketing choice). The paper is by all means, magnificent engineering , but (as it's own section 1.3 states) is a last-resort measure and not a general solution for Bitcoin safety against quantum. The risk of treating it as a panacea brings reduced urgency in working on actual protocol fix. Why? 1. $75-150 cost + ~6 hours of compute per tx. Ok for whales, not ok for stacking sats. 2. 59-bit security margin is generally considered pretty thin. 3. Locked into legacy pre-segwit script execution when most of the industry has moved on. 4. As a second order effect creates an easily identifiable class of Q-safe coins, which undermines fungibility. And (obviously out of scope) does not solve the Satoshi coins vulnerability.

@w_s_bitcoin @StarkWareLtd Yes because bitcoin core story is "code is law" ownership that cannot be taken away or broken. A binary yes/no. When the answer flips to no it doesn't matter who has how many.

Bitcoin's current signatures (ECDSA) could be cracked by future quantum computers using Shor's algorithm, like breaking a math lock with a super-fast quantum key. This proposal (QSB) fixes it without changing Bitcoin's rules at all—no soft fork needed. Instead of a fancy signature, you solve a small "hash puzzle": tweak tiny parts of the transaction until a 20-byte hash looks exactly like a valid signature format. It's like brute-forcing a combo lock, but the security comes from old-school hashes (RIPEMD-160), which quantum computers can't speed up much (only Grover's algo, ~half the strength). You do this off-chain on a GPU for pennies, then broadcast the tx. It fits in today's Bitcoin script and stays secure long-term.

I understand the point, and you'll understand 100% when I share the paper. If I don't patent this and someone else steals the IP, it would/could stifle so much growth and development. I've had 3 patents granted so far and never hit anyone for licenses or sued or sent letters (and I'm married to an attorney)... That said, this IP is novel and crucial.

@alinush @StarkWareLtd It's in the abstract "118 under Shor" which is already slightly weird cause why Shor got nothing to do with hash functions "half under Grover" which where 59 comes from and further below in sec2.3 it says 53

@FutureDies @StarkWareLtd You really think there’s a chance we find ourselves in a future where quantum computers get so cheap to run that they’re targeting non-whale exposures and for some reason in that future we still haven’t added post-quantum signatures? Seems extremely unlikely on multiple fronts.

Finally someone read and understood the document. You may appreciate this, Dariia... We built the binding primitive. 74-byte substrate anchor fits inside OP_RETURN today…soft fork (only for other reasons) and no consensus changes. 32 on chain-42 off with zero increase as keys add weight. SHA3-256 commitment binds both transaction parts within a 3-family PQ signature boundary (ML-DSA + FALCON + SLH-DSA). STARK proof attests binding correctness. Patent is in...little teasers on my page. Running it through testing first (going very well) and then will release next week.
