Govern me harder daddy…why do we pay to register our vehicles and toll roads are already in many places. Volunteer fire departments are a thing in many rural areas and raising funds seems to not be an issue. The government schools are broken in many states (look at the math and reading numbers) so what are we paying for there? I’d rather be able to decide where my money goes versus being forced to give it to a corrupt government.

People hate taxes and think it’s theft, but I wonder what a world with no taxes looks like. Schools? Private. Roads? Toll. Military? Not really sure. Fire/Police Departments? Swipe your card before they put out your house fire. Medicare and Social Security? Completely privatized. So in reality, is it viable?

I’m learning about @RippleXDev with @EasyA_App on my #60DaysOfXRPL! Learning the history of the #XRPL and how it was purpose-built for payments. It’s easy to forget blockchain’s killer use-case has always been exactly that. The #XRP Ledger is making the transfer of value as cheap as the transfer of information.

Billionaires didn't get here alone. Public schools educated their workforce. Public roads moved their goods. Public courts enforced their contracts. Public safety protected their property. Tax the rich.

@ShellyWood20771 @dubsndoo Please tell me what I’m getting from this so called “socialism”. I pay taxes so some Somali pirate in Minnesota can steal my tax dollars via a fraudulent day care center? Yes pure utopia

Hey pal, I was working up north in the seismic exploration sector in 1971. I lived in a camp, worked from Oct. to April, 7 days a week, 12 hours a day, and earned $1.92 an hour. Millennials wouldn’t have lasted a month up there.
Adam_Corbs@adam_corbs

@dubsndoo Boomers bought their house in 1971 for 37,000,today you can buy the same house for 600,000….

@dubsndoo @lamphieryeg The Boomers are parents to a large chunk of the millennials. If you despise the Millennial generation so much why didn’t you raise them better?

Since around 1970, U.S. home prices have risen much faster than median household incomes, making housing significantly less affordable over time. The price-to-income ratio (a common measure of affordability) has roughly doubled from historical norms of ~3x to ~5x or higher in recent years. It’s not so cut and dry…the devaluing of the dollar is crushing the middle class hard right now.

Boomers didn’t buy RVs that they couldn’t afford, we tented it. Boomers didn’t buy new cars, we bought used ones. Boomers didn’t spend six bucks for a cup of coffee at Starbucks. Boomers could hang all their clothes in a four foot closet. Boomers didn’t cry how tough their lives were, we fought through the tough times. Boomers have everything they have because they managed their money, didn’t squander it on frivolous things, and invested it in proven technologies and long term successful businesses. Boomers have zero fucks to give for whiners, fools, and couch potatoes.

This new policy will force thousands of LEGAL immigrants, including spouses of US citizens, to leave their homes, families, and jobs for weeks or even months to get their green card outside the U.S. This is an absurd and cruel policy.
The Washington Post@washingtonpost

Breaking news: The Trump administration will require most foreigners seeking green cards to apply from outside the U.S., a shift that lawyers said could affect thousands of people who file applications each year while living in America on temporary visas. wapo.st/42OZ7jS

Polymarket@Polymarket

JUST IN: Bolt CEO Ryan Breslow fired the company’s entire HR team because they were “creating problems that didn’t exist.”

@widestrokes @Rothmus This is false. They taxed things like whiskey not income. The country was built on tariffs. Temporary income taxes during the civil war were the first.

@Rothmus Federal taxes on income and other direct taxes have been around since the Founding. People must understand this: The 16th Amendment did nothing to change or alter the taxing power of Congress within the Constitution. Read Brushaber (1916) and Moore (2024).

This is the federal income tax play all over again. It started in 1913 as a “class tax” on the rich, hitting less than 1% of the population with a 1% rate above $3,000. It expanded during WWII into a mass tax on most workers through withholding, skyrocketing rates, base broadening, and bracket creep to fund wars and spending. The wealth tax will follow the same trajectory.
Chamath Palihapitiya@chamath

On page twenty-six of “The Billionaire Tax” proposal in California, it explains how the state legislature can convert from a Billionaire Tax to an Everyone Tax without voter approval. They can also adjust the tax to be a yearly tax, not just one time…again, without your approval. Intelligence test for you: if this was meant to just target Billionaires, why did they write this in?
