The disk is a physical object(hardware) that holds the digital data(software), it is very standardized sure, and needs a optical drive to read it, but the game is the data not the way the data is loaded

The steam machine allows you to wake it up using the controller, fast resume games, no obnoxious interruptions from a general-purpose OS...
