@Sabremetrix @23sabres I don't know, Krebs was the 16th pick, Mrtka the 9th pick. Hague had a good D+1, but I doubt that closes the gap to a recent 9OA. In 21, Wheeler had Krebs as the 26th best NHL affiliated prospect. In 26, Mrtka was 22nd. You can nitpick the source, but it's close either way IMO.

@BillTCB 27-28 salary cap goes up a ton + Skinner’s buyout hit is 4m lower + Byrams raise will likely only be around $3m - can fit Tuch + Byram quite easily with a full roster. 26-27 is harder to fit Tuch into.

If they sign Byram, Tuch is gone. That’s been my mindset, zero clue if that’s the right mentality, but that’s what I’m going with for now. Byram is hot and cold, but he does seem to be a non-lettered leader of the Sabres.

@Sabrestalkv2 @Sabremetrix Eh I don't know how much runway he had to really improve at the time of the trade. I don't believe he has much value, but I could see a team giving a late round pick if they have cap space + believe in him as a PKer (I don't, but others do!)

@gCan28 @Sabremetrix That’s the problem. His production hasn’t changed and he’s gotten older. We paid the second because he was a former 2nd round pick we took a flyer on to get better. He did not get better. His value has decreased and that is a large contract for a 4th liner. I do like him though

If the Sabres can swing Robert Thomas, and the package has to include 1 of or both Ostlund/Helenius my answer might change But that secondary core coming in is going to be way more valuable in a few years than Tuch, maybe even by late next year

Now that I’m kinda done overreacting to Alex Tuch’s second round performance, I can confidently say he should absolutely chase that bag from another team He will 100% get more money (per year) than what makes sense from the Sabres. A fine outcome for both parties
