@TheRedcapsNet @AGretz No system is perfect & certainly easier in a flat league. NHL & NFL are by far less susceptible than NBA to tanking but I like the idea of incentivizing trying to win vs rewarding tanking. Paying fans deserve more than what some teams put on the field/court/etc

You know what league never worries about tanking? The NFL. You know what league doesn't have a draft lottery? The NFL.

The "3-2-1 lottery" proposal, named to represent the number of lottery balls per team, would expand the lottery from 14 to 16 teams. Teams that do not qualify for the playoffs or play-in tournament but stay out of the relegation zone (spots four through 10) would receive three lottery balls each. Teams with a bottom-three record -- the relegation zone -- would have just two lottery balls but have a floor of the 12th pick while the rest of the 13 lottery teams could fall as far as the 16th pick. The 9th and 10th play-in seeds in each conference receive two lottery balls each while the losers of the 7-8 play-in games receive one lottery ball each. In addition, no team would be able to win the top pick in consecutive years or be able to win three consecutive top-five picks. Teams also would not be able to protect picks in the 12 to 15 slots going forward.

I’m not sure you can get any pro team to intentionally lose early. I think all athletes have an innate desire and level of pride to win to stink right off the bat.

@LoganKane24 @AGretz Why? Goal is competitive games late and not letting teams roll out a crap product for paying fans. Bad teams still have much better opportunity to get a good draft pick and you have better games late in the season. A team’s goal is to win not lose on purpose

@FlyOverCow @AGretz I don’t think pro athletes are wired to not compete. They are hyper competitive and always think they have a chance to win. No pro is going to play for a draft pick instead of a playoff spot.

@MajorChipHazar1 @AGretz The goal is meaningful and competitive games late vs rolling out a crap product. Theoretically it’s possible I guess but a bad team is gonna have way more opportunity earn points than a team with only 2 games left. Odds still favor bad team and your get better games late.

@g_stockaroo @AGretz That's a terrible system, it harms actual bad teams. If a team gets eliminated and then doesn't win a single game after that cause they're terrible then they don't get any points. Then a team that's decent gets eliminated wins 2 games and gets the number 1 pick.

Sorry, can’t convince me pros on a decent would be willing to play for a draft pick instead of a championship. Athletes aren’t wired that way.

True too many teams but once eliminated they would need to play hard and win to get a top pick instead of rolling out a crap product.

I think the randomness is always baked in with injuries. It seems what you create is a draft playoff. Bad teams won’t be surpassed by playoff teams or even teams that are eliminated late. What it does is keep the need to win instead of rewarding the need to lose.

@g_stockaroo @AGretz Just seems like randomness can help or hurt teams with this format more than merit. Injuries before or after you’re mathematically eliminated and the schedule you play for example

The transfer portal has screwed up college sports. My bill is simple: you get 5 consecutive years to play 5 seasons and you get 1 transfer. After that, if you transfer again, you sit out a year. This will fix 80% of the issues in NIL today.
