@dialecticdreams @interesting_aIl Natural diamonds are rare too. That's exactly why they still hold a different place for so many people.
English

@gaaby240 @interesting_aIl then buy a natural gemstone that is actually rare instead of a diamond.
English

@Sihle175958 Nobody's saying illegal mining doesn't exist. The point is that not every natural diamond comes from those operations.
English

Watch De Beers go on a generational campaign trying to convince us blood diamonds are somehow still more special lmao
Interesting AF@interesting_aIl
China is producing so many artificial diamonds that prices dropped by 90% since 2020, causing De Beers to permanently stop producing synthetic diamonds
English

@isaiathefemboy @red_blush_x "Uses water" isn't really the mic-drop you think it is. Every supply chain has trade-offs, and lab-grown diamonds still require energy-intensive manufacturing and industrial production.
English

@gaaby240 @red_blush_x You can compare them because one is made better than the other, and one cost us drinking water
English

@Garfieldisdoc Calling a luxury purchase "money laundering" is certainly... a take
English

friendly reminder diamond rings are a waste of money and are not rare. they've just been marketed as a symbol of love depending on the size of the stone. its a fucking rock.

Got a kidney stone brewing rn that’s bigger than whatever this shit is
English

@imtweakingoutrn @jellyboytoy It would also hit countries like Botswana, where natural diamonds fund jobs, schools and healthcare. It's a bit more complicated than that.
English

@gaaby240 @jellyboytoy Still part of a overall unethical trade. If demand for diamonds decreases then they whole chain regardless will take a hit
English

Even putting the blood diamong thing aside, making the concept of luxury goods go extinct altogether is a spiritual victory for humankind.

English

@stanningcarys Because for a lot of people it's not the same product. That's the part you keep skipping. 🤷♀️
English

@gaaby240 it is literally a real diamond though. like it’s not a natural diamond but why on earth would you want a questionably ethical diamond that costs $10k over the same one from a lab that costs like $500
English

I’m petty so I need to correct this wording but they are SYNTHETIC DIAMONDS (real diamonds produced in a lab in similar circumstances to how diamonds form in nature, just rapidly and very controlled), not ARTIFICIAL DIAMONDS (which would be an imitation, which they are NOT)

@1CoreConscious @interesting_aIl tbf ethically sourced natural diamonds exist across a wide range of budgets.
English

@gaaby240 @interesting_aIl Not everyone is rich enough for some ethical diamonds. Just buy lab made
English

@andronauts If they were objectively better this debate would've been over by now. Just sayin

@bsindia @akshita_singh_ Makes sense tbh. One is about accessibility, the other is about rarity and natural origin.
English

As lab-grown diamonds become more common, the industry is splitting into two markets: one built on rarity and natural origin, the other on scale, lower prices and affordability.

@LilStickyRicky Better for who? Someone chasing affordability might agree. Someone who values rarity probably won't.
English

Synthetic diamonds are a million times better than natural ones

@firydeth @HistoryBro1 Can't really affect supply if it's... you know... on Jupiter 😂
English

@HistoryBro1 That would really depress the value of natural diamonds.
English

@Iamsamirarora Same reason people still buy original art instead of prints. For some people, where it comes from matters.
English

More I think of it more I am convinced that diamonds have been totally disrupted.
If lab made diamonds cost 5 pct of real diamonds and u cannot distinguish between them- even in a lab itself they say- why will someone buy the natural diamonds.
And even if you still do, how do u know the seller is selling natural or lab made. And who all will u tell that u are wearing real ones.
