@ZacharyLevi @MattWalshBlog It's not about "stories that an algorithm tells", its about unlocking the technology & tools for the untold number of creatives around the world to convert their dreams into magic on the screen. How many actors, writers, and directors are out there that were pushed out of LA after years of struggling because of lack of opportunities or the cost of living? How many actors, writers, and directors never even began that risky life journey because they're working construction in the Midwest and didn't have the money, resources, or the network to pursue their dreams at all? Will there be AI prompt driven slop like you're describing, maybe a mountain of it? Without question. Will the increased competition also forces the industry adapt what they're willing to produce, and produce better stories that break through the noise. I think so. One day these tools will progress enough where an unknown number of creatives will be able to catch a break into this high gated industry and they'll be able to tell their story. Maybe those stories are just as a proof of concept to get the funding for a full-length studio feature. Or maybe its good enough as is to catch fire online and they do it alone. Either way we'll have new stories that previously would never have been told, by people who previously would never have been able to tell them. That's pretty cool.

It’s not about being impressed with the final product here. It’s about being gobsmacked with where the tech is, presently. Yes, this is still lacking so much. But it’s light years better than what it was just a moment ago. Moore’s Law. Exponential growth. It’s all happening. 🫤

I don't understand how anyone can be impressed by this. Okay, wow, an algorithm spit out some images that look kind of real. Okay cool. The fundamental problem with AI content -- and why I will never be interested in an AI movie, no matter how realistic it looks -- is that I just have no interest in the stories that an algorithm tells. I don't want to watch an AI story any more than I want to sit around and listen to ChatGPT tell me about its hopes and dreams. If the story has no soul then it lacks the one and only thing that can make it worthwhile or interesting.

I grew up in the biz - my dad produced Independence Day, my mom worked on Seinfeld. I've seen firsthand what it costs to create worlds on screen. This video from the @thedorbrothers below is mind-blowing. Software is going through the same shift right now. Writing code is no longer the bottleneck, knowing what to build is. Film is next. But production was never really the magic. The magic was always taste, story, and knowing your audience. The barrier to making something is collapsing to zero. The barrier to making something *great* never changes. The real golden age of storytelling is about to begin.
