Number of power outages continues to grow and even at my sheltered and low lying station at Tullow has seen a gust of 100kmh now. Please stay indoors now as the worst of storm hits.

@galldar If you were to bring back this empty container to Ireland, Re-Turn's current messaging would tell you to return the container and claim a refund - even though no deposit has been charged on that container.
The Mandatory logo isn't preventing fraud - it's propulgating it.

How can this be fixed?
Step One is Re-Turn needs to change the rules such that the Re-Turn Logo is OPTIONAL and not Mandatory.
The Logo is the key tool Big Business is using to reduce competition and increase profits on Big Business brands ...

Just out - @rtenews is reporting an estimated container redemption rate of circa. 16%.
Before Re-Turn, we had a redemption rate of 77% on cans.
Could it be that @returnireland is more interested in helping Big Business than protecting the environment?

@BeerMessiah @liddletummy We’re already being charged deposits on ‘International Barcode’ items that don’t feature a logo. These can be used in RVMs to get deposit back, despite the signage on the machines saying logo items only. ~1.9k items. List originally was ~2.5k

@liddletummy @galldar Different barcodes for each country would be a disaster.
It would massively increase waste, hurting the environment, and even Re-Turn have assessed that it wouldn't work in Ireland - never mind being entirely contrary to the EU Free Movement of Goods philosophy.

By the way, the unnecessary Re-Turn logo stickers are incinerated when aluminium cans are melted during recycling.
This turns these (unnecessary) stickers into greenhouse gasses.

Small Irish breweries have to order cans in "huge" quantities - they can easily have up to a year worth of empty cans - never mind the additional full stock.
There was ambiguity about the rules - rules were changing up to 2-3 months before scheme started

Deposit Return Scheme stats are quite good. What's interesting is how insistent & urgent its main supporters, minister @smytho & @VOICE_Ireland, are that it must improve. (Wud normally expect a 'sure, it'll be grand' vibe at early stage of new initiative)

@BeerMessiah @returnireland I’ve already had an android app made. Scans barcode with the camera, it checks against the list of ~1.9k ‘international’ codes that are part of the scheme but no logo. Got the list from re-turn but they haven’t replied to request for access to check items that do have the logo.
