Is modern Hindi is in exactly the same situation with Hindi belt varieties, as MSA is with Arabic varieties? only modern Hindi is taught in schools and spoken in broadcasts. and its primarily used only to speak with ppl who dont speak their variety.

@sadist_2003 if they intend to do that, why not put that down in writing within the text of the bill?

@cobbaltt purely linguistically, they are different. but sociolinguistically, they are treated the same. and isnt diglossia sociolinguistics? MSA and arabic varieties are mutually unintelligible but they are socially considered to be the same language

@ganzaa005 The difference between "we use a different version of our language for writing" and "we use a different language entirely for writing" is just that the latter is the former with an army and a navy. It depends on whether you consider std Hindi the same "language" as Mewari et al

@cobbaltt but taking in context languages like Mewari, Awadhi, Bundeli, Bhojpuri, and their situation currently, isnt it closer to Arabic? like, does for example Swedish has an equivalently varied amount of varieties which are borderline unintelligible from one another?

@ganzaa005 It's not diglossia à la Tamil or Arabic, aside from the number of Sanskritic/Persianitic words. It's more like the situation in Scandinavia — there is a particular literary register that's a sort of compromise and is not identical to any spoken register; but at the same time, ...

@AmitWalkayx0 the written language's spelling is based on how the word is pronounced in the formal tongue, which is functionally a different language than the one spoken on the streets. which makes it very difficult to pick up the script later on in life, even if you know the language

@sadist_2003 India _is_ federal, just a top down version of it. Indian states have no powers completely independent of the union govt. they can be merged, broken apart, demoted to union territories, force re elections with no consent of theirs.

Can anyone explain me why is there a HAL facility with its airfield in the middle of Bengaluru urban area? Wouldn't it be better for the city for this facility to move outwards?

@sadist_2003 It is a very inefficient use of land, as basically any urban planner can attest to. Much of the blame can be put on the AAI, which restricts heights not just in flight paths but in a circular area around the airport (Which almost no other country on the planet does)

@AvisharDutta @AviationAll_ other ways around. alliance air just pisses away money by running nonsensical routes at unreasonably low frequencies. Udan is a much better return for rhe money

@AviationAll_ I would rather give the Udan money to Alliance to expand their fleet. Keep it state owned, expand the fleet. Udan has an approved outlay of 28000 crs for 10 yrs
