@FaraiMazhindu @ProfTimNoakes The more layers of cost governments add to business the more they strangle the economy and hurt the people they claim to represent. This is now happening in many western countries and is not unique to South Africa unfortunately.

The defense put forward by South African officials and their puppet supporters regarding the Elon Musk and Starlink standoff is deeply embarrassing. Arguing that extortion is acceptable because other corporations silently paid the gatekeepers is a masterclass in intellectual shallowness. The B-BBEE framework laws are no longer about empowerment or rectifying past injustices. They have mutated into an elite enrichment scheme for politicians and their immediate circles to extract unearned rents. You cannot build a modern, competitive economy by demanding bribes from the people holding the keys to global innovation. Packaging theft as public policy doesn't legitimize it, it just drives innovation and capital away.

@OrevaZSN You do know that before there were governments, people worked to feed themselves, make clothes and shelter.

“So you think people should just have free food and housing?” Yes. One of the things every government should do is ensure its citizens have food and shelter. I hate when people call me dumb for wanting a utopia. What’s the point of a species that can build one if we don’t?

After a day like this, only fools think burning fossil fuels for any longer than is necessary makes sense. The much derided Ed Miliband is right: his critics ultimately enemies of life on earth. news.sky.com/story/weather-…

Had to happen … they want to abolish Sterling. Of course they do. Adding Britain’s economy to the Euro and the City of London, would boost global trading in euros. Making it more competitive with the US$. Labour will say it will give more stability, less currency volatility, lower costs for businesses, and easier trade with Europe. Watch this space …

Honestly I’m very amused people think Andy Burnham is the great reformer from outside the system. He’s been THE SYSTEM for over 25 years right inside the machine…. Researcher, special adviser, MP, cabinet minister, Health Secretary, Shadow Home Secretary and Mayor. He aligns perfectly with the global governance consensus, it’s all there… Net Zero on acid, regional technocratic governance, green energy nonsense economics, managed migration, anti-fracking, “inclusive growth” and pro EU, all from the same worldview promoted by the UN, WEF, NGOs and corporate ESG structures. He doesn’t want to change the system. He IS the system 🤡

@GamingGrifter Yes, we are seeing a rapid shift now, mainly in the digital sector, and many older companies are of course folding as they fail to adapt. I guess my point is that in the main, new companies take time to grow. Growth requires talented leadership and a willingness to reinvest.

@gavinmoolman This doesn't hold when comparing to other countries like America. Where most of their 10 top are made up of new companies. Moreover, it's not just the lack of top 10 or top 50 it's that nearly no new companies have even risen to prominence

Proof that communism doesn't create the means of production. It seizes the means of production and like a parasite feeds on it until nothing remains. Communism only lasts until the last of the fruits of capitalism has been devoured and then the people starve.

@OrevaZSN @EmpickaLiesel Life is full of choices. Work, don’t work, work for a billionaire, don’t work for a billionaire! I happen to work for a billionaire, he pays me well, he pays 200,000 other people well I assume or they wouldn’t work for him. Life choices!

Billionaires don’t work a billion times harder than teachers or farmers. You don’t earn a billion dollars through hard work. That money comes from the ruthless exploitation of underpaid labor, where a small group of billionaires amasses grotesque, unjustifiable fortunes.

@AndyFitchet This idea of theirs is just crazy. Most people earning £75k put in extra hours for no pay and how would it ever be administered. Could apply in niche sectors like health care but honestly, this isn’t a serious vote winner.

If you work 9-6:30 every single day Reform will promise you an extra £1000. Is that it? What a waste of life for £1k. Go spend time with your family, do some gardening, go to the pub, enjoy your life. The extra £1k to run yourself into the ground is not worth it.
Robert Jenrick@RobertJenrick

If you work at the Heinz factory near Wigan, do an hour and a half overtime every day, you’ll be *£1,000* a year better off. Reform will make work pay again.

South Africa could have been a great country, but the ANC chose looting over building, envy over pride, incompetence over merit, lies over truth, revenge over reconciliation. I will never forgive the ANC for what they’ve done to South Africa. Treason of the highest order.

You clearly have no idea what a customs union is. It will introduce protectionist tariffs which will increase the cost of living for consumers and the cost of materials for manufacturers. It will also destroy our good trade deals including the recent one with the gulf states. Do your homework
Will Forster MP 🔶@WillForster

Tonight, I voted for a UK-EU customs union. We need to restore our trading relationship with Europe and turbo-charge our economy. Whenever I meet with #Woking businesses, they tell me how difficult it is to trade with the EU post-Brexit - that needs to change.

Surprise, surprise @wesstreeting is on @BBCr4today bashing landlords. I’ve got news for you mate, we can’t have a “productive nation” without people having homes, so if you want to tax Landlords to hell, I’d build some alternative accommodation first ‘cos you’re going to need it.

At the General Election we pledged to bring down net migration. Following reforms in our Immigration White Paper last Spring, it has now fallen 82% from the peak under the Tories. We promised a fair, controlled and managed migration system, and that is what we are delivering.
Yvette Cooper@YvetteCooperMP

Under the Tories overseas recruitment shot up while UK training was cut - a failed free-market experiment which quadrupled net migration in 4years. Tomorrow’s White Paper will restore control to the immigration system, bring down net migration & boost skills & training in the UK
