The point here isn't that Hungary will now hasten Ukraine's accession, but that it will no longer act as an obstacle against it. Lavrov himself said the outgoing government was "blackmailing" the EU over this issue. Kyiv should be very pleased -- as Brussels clearly is -- with this outcome.

🎯 Apologists trying to credit Orbán for conceding are intentionally missing the point. He would’ve done anything to stay in power had he thought it possible. Hungarians made it impossible. Trying & failing to destroy democracy receives no credit. He didn't stop; he was stopped.

Orbán's electoral crushing is a far greater achievement than most people realise. He systemically consolidated power for 16 yrs, fixed the electoral map, abused gov power for political purposes & censored media. The hurdles that Hungarians overcame for this moment were immense.

Why didn't Orban keep power by repression? He must have thought about it. But with an economy embedded in the European Union and armed forces anchored in NATO, there were sharp practical limits to how tyrannical he could be without national catastrophe. Institutions mattered.

Just think about it for a moment.
This is political corruption turned up to the absolute maximum, displayed with a level of brazenness and shamelessness the world has never seen before.

With a Supermajority Tisza will be capable of Constitutional Change. Meaning there will never again appear a Hungarian Sovereignist Party. This loss is great, people will remember these elections for decades. But unlike other times in history, we elected ourselves into a client state status. The EU will make brutal changes in Hungary so another sovereignist and nationalist will not rise again. Repression will be made on levels not seen since Trianon or post 1848-1849 War of Independence.
