@HToerring @sarahdiaryz Yes. I was referring to the picture in the picture, which now I realize wasn't clear enough. G Dss Elena was painted in a tiara never worn by her daughters, or photographed. I'm deeply curious about its history!!
English

@gbrlfnt @sarahdiaryz This is not the Grandduchess Helen of Russia, Princess Nicholas of Greece. It is her younger daughter Marina Duchess of Kent, standing under her mothers Portrait.
English

#OTD 142 years ago. Grand Duchess Elena Vladimirovna of Russia was born on 17 January 1882 in Saint Petersburg, Russian Empire.
Later Princess Nicholas of Greece and Denmark, she was grandmother of TRH The Duke of Kent, Princess Alexandra and Prince Michael of Kent.

@europeroyalsfan @BlogMathilde Traditionally, she was right. I think it was Pss Françoise who broke with convention when naming the baby 🤭
English

@gbrlfnt @BlogMathilde That's funny, because I remember our French teacher saying that if the name was Jean Marie, then it was probably a man, but if it was Marie Jeanne, then it was probably a woman. Guess he was wrong, then. 😂
English

@europeroyalsfan @BlogMathilde The French shares a bit of this tradition as well. I believe Prince Charles Henri Lobkowicz's 1st name is Marie. 😂
Girls born on St Joseph's day also tend to have his name, and the same with boys born in any Mary festivity.
English

@europeroyalsfan @BlogMathilde Not so much Habsburg as catholic. It happens in portuguese and spanish names as well, given the deep influence received from their cultures' religion. For instance, Mary Joseph and Joseph Mary are rather popular names among elder Latin people, in honor of the holy family.

@larissabona I would say that the night the artist formerly known as Prince was concieved, she should have restrained herself.

You have stopped here, Liz.

@sumac405 @richardaeden Indeed. Their father's affairs do not compromise their personal dignity, neither should his penalties affect their birthright titles. They're male line granddaughters of a monarch, hence, HRH Princesses.
English

@richardaeden But aren’t their titles derived from their grandmother the late Queen rather than from their father? In which case the loss of the title Prince from Andrew wouldn’t impact “the girls”.
English

@europeroyalsfan Napoleon was always a rather controversial villain. Destroyed the HRE, but gave us the Cameo Parure, Norwegian emeralds, Swedish sapphires, so perhaps the man had his virtues, right🤭

I have been a Royal Watcher for all my life. I have accompanied, supported and shared the knowledge I have of the Royal Family for all my life. This announcement is the most shocking I have ever read in all my life. And I agree it’s necessary for the sake of the Monarchy. #GodSaveTheRF

@saadsalman719 Amazing to see Pss Elizabeth of Yugoslavia! Again she's still unbelievably looking fit as a fiddle. Intriguing to think she and her cousin Alexandra of Kent are the same age

@KateMiddStyle Preferably with an updo to match the grandeur of this tiara, though her loose hair's been looking cinematic by itself.
English

I would NOT be mad to see Kate wear this at December’s diplomatic reception, with a red gown (and I’d even be happy for a repeat gown!)

@rebeccajkey @bronwenlthomas We should hope not. Wearing three would look much better
English

@bronwenlthomas So when Catherine is queen, she will wear a Royal Family Order featuring William and no other?
English

To those in this community who often criticise Queen Camilla for not wearing both Royal Family Orders like Princess Anne and the Princess of Wales: here’s the reason.
The Royal Family Order is not just a pretty ribbon, it is a personal honour from the sovereign, given only to female members of the royal family who undertake official duties. Each monarch creates their own: Queen Elizabeth II chose a pale yellow ribbon, while King Charles III’s is light blue.
Here’s the difference:
👑 Camilla wears only Charles III’s order because she is Queen Consort. Her role is to represent and support the current monarch exclusively. Wearing his order alone reflects that unique position.
✨ Anne and Catherine, on the other hand, are royal women who continue their service across reigns. That’s why they wear both Elizabeth II’s and Charles III’s orders – as a sign of respect for the late Queen and loyalty to the King.
So, it’s not a slight, nor a snub. It’s tradition. Camilla’s choice symbolises her role as Queen today, while Anne and Catherine honour both past and present.

English

@saadsalman719 Do we know what has kept the Dss of Edinburgh from attending the banquet?
English

Queen Camilla was in the Belgian Sapphire Tiara, the Princess of Wales wore the Lover’s Knot Tiara, Princess Anne was in her Cartier Aquamarine Tiara, and the Duchess of Gloucester wore the Honeysuckle Tiara at last night’s Banquet at Windsor Castle.
