The higher judiciary, Group Development Pakistan, and FCDO, were honoured to see how the steps initiated in 2017 towards a child friendly justice reform agenda, were bearing tangible outcomes. The "Rizwana case" is a painful reminder of how urgently child labour in domestic work must be banned and #JusticeForChildren upheld. As the trial continues, we wonder: will justice prevail for Rizwana and so many other children exploited and internally trafficked into domestic labour? When will the @nchrofficial take Suo Moto notice of this case as a major systemic child rights violation? When will the federal prosecutor general become a party to this case? When will the pending law to ban child labour in domestic work under 18 be enacted? When will traffickers and exploiters be held accountable? The delegation underscored that international funding for refugee support has sharply declined by 77% last year alone placing significant pressure on Pakistan as host communities continue to shoulder the impact. #SharedResponsibility #CRCReview

On statelessness, Pakistan highlighted its long-standing role in hosting millions of refugees many of whom grew up and were educated in Pakistan. #Refugees #CRCReview 🧵

While not a signatory to the Refugee Convention, Pakistan noted that its decades-long response has exceeded that of many signatory states driven by solidarity and regional responsibility, despite severe resource constraints. #HumanitarianResponse

To strengthen birth registration, hospitals now send SMS alerts to parents with reminders and information on the nearest registration facilities. Birth certificates can be obtained through hospitals, union councils, and NADRA. #LegalIdentity #ChildRights

The delegation noted that a religious ruling (fatwa) addressing child protection has been obtained and will be shared with madrassas nationwide, reinforcing that child safeguarding applies across all settings. #CRCReview #ChildProtection

On sexual abuse and exploitation, Pakistan stressed that no institution enjoys immunity. Abuse can occur anywhere, and religious institutions are not treated as exceptions under the law. #ZeroTolerance #ChildRights

The delegation referred to Pakistan Penal Code Sections 371A & 371B, which explicitly link child trafficking and sale with prostitution-related exploitation, ensuring criminal accountability for such abuses. #ChildProtection #CRCReview

During the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child review, Pakistan’s delegation clarified that sale of children and child trafficking are both criminalised under law and treated as distinct offences, though applied alongside related legal provisions where relevant. #CRCReview #Pakistan
