The @Citadel1842 has made Tripp an honorary Summerall Guard. He passed while going thru BVA. I miss him everyday. The Bond Volunteer Aspirant (BVA) training is a rigorous process required for cadets at The Citadel to qualify for the prestigious Summerall Guards, an elite silent precision drill platoon. This training typically occurs during a cadet's junior year and is a voluntary, highly competitive undertaking designed to test physical stamina, mental toughness, and drill proficiency. The BVA process spans several weeks, often lasting around six weeks, and begins with an initial physical fitness test that candidates must pass to participate. The training includes intense physical exercises such as military push-ups, sit-ups, and rifle-bearing drills, all of which demand exceptional endurance and strength. Cadets also undergo close-order drill practice, mastering the complex and unwritten "Citadel Series," a series of movements based on German close-order drill, including the Prussian Goose Step, passed down orally from one class to the next. A key component of BVA training is the "Cuts Run," a demanding run led by the Summerall Guard Commander, who determines the distance, pace, and targeted attrition rate to weed out those who cannot meet the high standards. The process is both physically and mentally challenging, often likened to the freshman "knob" year but more intense due to the added responsibilities of junior-year leadership roles and academic demands. Selection for the Summerall Guards, which consists of exactly 61 rising senior cadets, occurs after the BVA training culminates, typically around "Cuts Day." Successful candidates demonstrate not only physical capability but also discipline, leadership, and dedication. Membership in the Summerall Guards is considered one of the highest honors at The Citadel, reflecting the exactness and thoroughness of a cadet’s training. The new Guards are officially recognized during the annual Corps Day/Recognition Day weekend, where they receive their rifles and patches from the outgoing platoon in a ceremonial changing of the guard.

A significant milestone was reached by the $XRP network activity, with payment volume surpassing $1 billion in a brief period of time. This type of spike indicates a significant change in the way the network is being used, and more crucially, institutions driving those payments 🐂

My father was given a pocket Bible to carry in Vietnam. On January 23, near Saigon, his jeep hit a land mine. Shrapnel tore into his face and legs, but the Bible in his breast pocket stopped the shrapnel from reaching his heart. The hole from the shrapnel ended on 1 Corinthians 15. “Death is swallowed up in victory.”🙏 Gen. Mace, a remarkable man, a remarkable life.

There are concrete, documented reasons @Harvard itself gave for the crisis around @ClaudineGayDEI. Multiple mainstream outlets report that her resignation followed intense criticism over both plagiarism allegations in her scholarly work and her widely publicized congressional testimony where she would not clearly state that calls for genocide of Jews violated Harvard’s conduct policy. Harvard’s governing board acknowledged “duplicative language without appropriate attribution” and required corrections to her dissertation and articles, even if it stopped short of formally labeling it research misconduct. #bestworkplace

Think in probabilities
Math Files@Math_files

Bayes’ theorem is probably the single most important thing any rational person can learn. So many of our debates and disagreements that we shout about are because we don’t understand Bayes’ theorem or how human rationality often works. Bayes’ theorem is named after the 18th-century Thomas Bayes, and essentially it’s a formula that asks: when you are presented with all of the evidence for something, how much should you believe it? Bayes’ theorem teaches us that our beliefs are not fixed; they are probabilities. Our beliefs change as we weigh new evidence against our assumptions, or our priors. In other words, we all carry certain ideas about how the world works, and new evidence can challenge them. For example, somebody might believe that smoking is safe, that stress causes mouth ulcers, or that human activity is unrelated to climate change. These are their priors, their starting points. They can be formed by our culture, our biases, or even incomplete information. Now imagine a new study comes along that challenges one of your priors. A single study might not carry enough weight to overturn your existing beliefs. But as studies accumulate, eventually the scales may tip. At some point, your prior will become less and less plausible. Bayes’ theorem argues that being rational is not about black and white. It’s not even about true or false. It’s about what is most reasonable based on the best available evidence. But for this to work, we need to be presented with as much high-quality data as possible. Without evidence—without belief-forming data—we are left only with our priors and biases. And those aren’t all that rational.
