Much of the design of my new site was made around rabbit holes. To start with the surface of something simple, say a skull, then slip between (and into) each artwork, collection, person, psalm, their contributions, and how each piece fits together. samspratt.com/skulls/skulls

It was so wonderful meeting Mungi. He generously spent time with me to explain the details of the incredible technology he built to make Birds come to life. Nothing like a great partner in crime.

Gm I think it’s important to take notice of @nicedayJules Bird project You might think it’s success is because it’s filled up on your timeline But in reality it was because Jules built a project that was specifically not fomo induced We feel often that projects here need to be built on the timeline in order to be successful The sell out is desperately hinged on tweets and likes Jules took the opposite approach He made a spreadsheet of all his Collectors and those who expressed the interest to collect Over the last few months he made 120 meetings to show his project to potential buyers … 120 He made it about the importance of the 1 on 1 relationship and strong communication He than spent his own money to create an irl experience that was a gamble on weather it work or not It ended being one of the best art exhibition I have experienced The hype was not visible but the soul of the project was deep in the background waiting to bust out We all need to learn from this We are building slowly and the grind can feel endless But it is important to Remeber that releasing your best work while being patient is more important than anything We need collectors that want to speculate on legacy not price Projects like Jules were not promising gains or pumps but instead a feeling of hope and connection Congrats to jules and his team for doing it different and proving to everyone that art can be made, sold and loved in all different ways This is How Jules builds

If you listen closely, you can hear all of the people who give a shit, working their asses off to preserve the art. It's like the bell in "The Polar Express". You can only hear it if you believe.

I lost my grandmother, who was my mother, my muse, and my closest friend. The fishing boat she risked her life on to escape North Korea is where my solo exhibition this June begins. I hurried the work, hoping to show it to her, but time did not wait.

Going to an artist friend’s birthday party and the theme is to dress up like their art. She uses a lot of layered patterns in her work. How did I do?😎 I had to borrow my son’s Godzilla jacket!😆

“A HOME FOR ARTISTS DEFINING DIGITAL CULTURE TODAY” - @nodefnd I think that we often want to be noticed and seen We strive to find moments that define us as a movement This weekend in my opinion is one of those at the Node Foundation I think what Becky and Micky set out to build was an environment that fostered curiosity and education for the masses not just the same circle of friends from this community One of the most visible take aways for me about @beeple “Infinite Loop” was how many people I didn’t recognize Beeple along with his bother Scott have created more than a legacy for an individual artist but a legacy through building a movement for many Included in the event that saw thousands of people walk in on the first day was a wall of emerging artists picked by @batsoupyum It is so clear how much Beeple cares about lifting the ecosystem in every opportunity he can Kudos to the Node team spearheaded by @philmohun they are truly putting in the work I think we are at crossroads in our small little community We are bombarded with native in our timeline but lifted to highest spirits in real life experiences I think the solution is to create even more moments like this weekend We need to continue to build louder and unapologetically This is not about anymore of us playing by others rules but instead have others learn ours We need to expand and create more nodes every where We need to preach the history of digital art to show this is not a fad but many have been constructing this for decades An art renaissance is not built only by the larger and loudest but the smallest and quietest moments as well So, everything that is contributed counts and matter towards our erection (Beeple favorite word) of a shift in how we build art for The future There is many who want to see us fail but we won’t We have something many in the art world have lost… Spirit This is how we build

Final day of Wrong Side of the Fence. This show came from a real place. Not just where I grew up, but how those environments stay with you and keep shaping the work. Grateful to everyone who spent time with it, in person or from afar. The support, the conversations, the collectors who connected with it all mattered. Big thank you to the team at @EternoGallery , and to @FoesselPauline for believing in the work and giving me the opportunity to have a solo show.

Thoughts about Japan: Many people ask me why most of my art is about Japan. I got caught in Tokyo for 9 months during the pandemic. At some point, I ran out of money, food, and a place to stay. Japanese people started to donate me food, face masks, medicine, and even let me stay in a hostel for whatever I could pay. They didn't know me or my past; they were just kind. They taught me Japanese and how to get around. They became my family, which helped me not feel alone. Later on, I met a girl whom I ended up marrying, and because of who I moved to Japan. I never imagined living here, but as a way to give back to the country that gave me this new, amazing life, I swore to dedicate my art to capture its endless beauty and share it with the world. Thank you Japan.

Big moment for my friend and mentor @YamashitaPhoto! Michael's career is one that leaves me in awe. The body of work he has created over many decades is a record of humanity like no other. I have many of his books and I'm adding this one, which I was lucky enough to see at our last lunch meeting. Its a masterpiece. Make sure to take a look:

Announcing my new book, The Nature of Japan, available this October. Pre-orders are now open on the Barnes & Noble website. Please visit their site for full details - bit.ly/4brmXao. The Nature of Japan draws on my decades of work to explore the country’s enduring relationship with the natural world. Rather than a journalistic account, it is a meditation in images—where beauty, light, and imagination come together to reflect the profound influence of nature on Japanese culture, art, and daily life.
