@Romy_Holland My hubby calls this 'transmit-mode', where the conversation is totally one-sided and the talker has nothing of real interest to say.
English

i understand why ppl do small talk when they are first meeting someone, but why do some ppl do compulsive small talk all the time? my MIL just by default talks nonstop.
“do you think all of that will fit in that suitcase? i always check my suitcase, don’t want to be lifting it on the plane. i take it to the gate and check it there. they let you check it for free!”
“uber is here! last time i took an uber it was a prius. hard to get ubers at my house, have to call ahead.”
“i talked to margaret. did i tell you that? she called me. she’s getting ready to go to the airport. 2pm fight for her. but she’s flying domestic. gets in in the evening.”
but like basically nonstop for hours. never anything that needs to be said, always just kinda autobiographical and impossible to respond to with anything other than “mmmm.”
it is very much the same as someone following me around with a television playing nonstop ads, but if i don’t kinda pay attention to the ads i am rude. not only can i now not have a normal conversation with my fiancé, i cannot even have interesting thoughts in my own mind.

Nationals Leader Matt Canavan says the Albanese govt could appoint Tony Abbott as a special envoy to address aboriginal disadvantage in Central Australia. #Insiders

@ESzczambur93581 @AdamSinger I work in a 'put it in your locker' school. You can imagine the compliance rates. 😫
English

@genXalogy @AdamSinger I know that’s why they need lockers - all this talk about AI and technology there should be small lockers for the older children - phones - sanitary ware -there’s cameras if anybody should try take anything
English

@ESzczambur93581 @AdamSinger Problem is they're an expensive bit of kit, so being responsible for them (when they don't belong to the school) raises a host of issues.
English

@AdamSinger With the legal age of children being able to walk to and from school at 8 years old and the rise in criminal acts against children - phones were needed for protection - schools should make it a priority to store phones so they are available before and after school
English

@PhilSledge What a magnificent BSH... dog...
English

@Sp4830651473090 @RizomaSchool Sounds wonderful!!
English

@RizomaSchool So for our situation which is similar my wife books things to do with her mother a different day, me and our children spend the day taking care of my wife, for a couple hours I’ll take the kids to see my mother and mother in law while my wife takes a bath or something in peace
English

genuinely, answer me like i am autistic
is this a holiday for mothers with small kids or grandmothers or what?
am I supposed to relax and be celebrated today as a mom of small kids? Or should I spend the day showering my mom and grandmother with gifts and attention?
Daughter of Flat Earthers@New_E_Mom
I think as a culture we need to move on from making Mother's Day a generational battle
English

@amymillerz @RizomaSchool I tried that, and am considered the worst person ever for having that take. Every year everyone acts like I've never said it, and I have to say it all over again.
English

@RizomaSchool Don't get me wrong I think the grandmothers are being selfish for bringing the attention to them, however, what I really wish is that mother would just say "no, this is my day, I am going to do what I want."
English

@AtALoss15 @New_E_Mom Yep. My pet hate is that, as the only person doing daily hands on parenting, I am the end of the queue on Mother's Day. It's usually a day for me to cook and wash up for someone else's mother.
English

@New_E_Mom A mom friend told me last week she despises Mother’s Day as a holiday. For twenty years as a mom that day/week has been spent celebrating her MIL and her own mom with very little recognition of her role as a mom of several kids.
English

@colonelhogans It's like poor Jimmy Carter and his peanut farm vs the current guy all over again.
English

Former NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell resigned as he’d “forgot” to declare an expensive bottle of wine.
Federal Labor minister Mick Young waa forced to stand down in 1984 as he didn’t declare a Paddington bear in his luggage thru customs.
Hanson is gifted a new plane and $2M cash from a billionaire and the media thinks it’s a blow up over nothing?
English

@JimmyBarnes Happy birthday to an Australian icon. Still giving us all so much. Hope you have had a wonderful day getting spoiled by your amazing family.
English

Hi everyone - Jane here, borrowing Jimmy’s page for a moment.
Today we celebrate 70 years of my incredible husband - the love of my life. Jimmy, you are the most caring, generous, funny, and talented man I know, and we are all so lucky to share this life with you.
Please join me in wishing Jimmy a very happy 70th birthday. ❤️

@WhiteHouse We know no king but the king in the west whose name is LeBron.
English

@Hugh_GAO3 @lizziethat Yeeessss... Such a good show.
English

@beckmatters @lizziethat This is the most correct answer.

@lizziethat Carnivale/1899/Shadow & Bone/Invasion America
Netflix should have to have warnings on the blurb for them. "Don't get too attached, we've already axed it!"
English

@shemaiahng Oh gosh... when Jesus gave literally us all one we could use, like, whenever. It's so sad she feels that way.
English

A Protestant friend who is going through a lot of spiritual warfare, said she is repeating some of the same prayers and feels badly for that. I don't understand this. Hasn't Christendom been praying the same prayers for centuries and for the very reason, that sometimes in the midst of it, it is difficult to find your own words to pray.
English

@VonBitchPants Sorry to hear that you're having to come back sooner than you'd hoped. :(
English

@keltra68 @SandyHorne61 @chdyctt It was said at the Dawn Service I attended just yesterday morning (and I'm sure at many others across the country). We also had two Christian hymns.
English

I'm not a Christian so I don't much care for the Lord's Prayer.
But, when I hear it, I stay respectfully silent.
It's not about me or my opinions.
#AnzacDay
English

@ProfPeterDoyle @BFI It is a wonderful bit of cinema.
English

@genXalogy @BFI Fantastic. I’ve seen it multiple times and consider it as a masterpiece; it was great to see it as it should be seen, on a big screen. Superb; I became aware of visual signals throughout: Uncle’s whistle, the starting pistol, etc. superb
English

Loud Australian at @BFI screening of Peter Weir’s Gallipoli this evening: Why are YOU here? Are you Australian?
Me: I’m an historian who studies Gallipoli… I’m not Australian
Her: have YOU been to Gallipoli?
Me: Many times…you should see the Dawn Ceremony at Anzac…
Her: oh….
English

@Mr_Husky1 Nope. A little spruce up of the things she'd have done if she had time, and fresh milk etc. in the fridge for when she gets in. Like Dingleberry said, nothing invasive.
English

I had a best friend who recently had a loss in their family. I'm feeding her cats while she is away.
Would it be weird if I tidied up her apartment while I'm there? Not that it's dirty! She had to leave in a rush to catch a flight. So like wash the dirty dishes in the sink, wipe down the counters. That type of thing.
I feel like if I lost a family member, coming back to a tidy home would take so much weight off my shoulders.
