So sick of the misconceptions around teaching. I studied an FTE of 11 years @ uni to do this job. The last 3 years I did over 700 hours of professional development (some of it being 2 FTE of those uni years). I work hard, and you only see a fraction of that.

i understand why ppl do small talk when they are first meeting someone, but why do some ppl do compulsive small talk all the time? my MIL just by default talks nonstop. “do you think all of that will fit in that suitcase? i always check my suitcase, don’t want to be lifting it on the plane. i take it to the gate and check it there. they let you check it for free!” “uber is here! last time i took an uber it was a prius. hard to get ubers at my house, have to call ahead.” “i talked to margaret. did i tell you that? she called me. she’s getting ready to go to the airport. 2pm fight for her. but she’s flying domestic. gets in in the evening.” but like basically nonstop for hours. never anything that needs to be said, always just kinda autobiographical and impossible to respond to with anything other than “mmmm.” it is very much the same as someone following me around with a television playing nonstop ads, but if i don’t kinda pay attention to the ads i am rude. not only can i now not have a normal conversation with my fiancé, i cannot even have interesting thoughts in my own mind.

I don't understand why smartphones were ever allowed in schools in the first place. We weren't even allowed to take out a graphing calculator outside of very specific math or science classes. Did everyone just give up on rules and decorum at some point

@AdamSinger With the legal age of children being able to walk to and from school at 8 years old and the rise in criminal acts against children - phones were needed for protection - schools should make it a priority to store phones so they are available before and after school

@RizomaSchool So for our situation which is similar my wife books things to do with her mother a different day, me and our children spend the day taking care of my wife, for a couple hours I’ll take the kids to see my mother and mother in law while my wife takes a bath or something in peace

@RizomaSchool Don't get me wrong I think the grandmothers are being selfish for bringing the attention to them, however, what I really wish is that mother would just say "no, this is my day, I am going to do what I want."

@New_E_Mom A mom friend told me last week she despises Mother’s Day as a holiday. For twenty years as a mom that day/week has been spent celebrating her MIL and her own mom with very little recognition of her role as a mom of several kids.

I think as a culture we need to move on from making Mother's Day a generational battle

Former NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell resigned as he’d “forgot” to declare an expensive bottle of wine. Federal Labor minister Mick Young waa forced to stand down in 1984 as he didn’t declare a Paddington bear in his luggage thru customs. Hanson is gifted a new plane and $2M cash from a billionaire and the media thinks it’s a blow up over nothing?

A Protestant friend who is going through a lot of spiritual warfare, said she is repeating some of the same prayers and feels badly for that. I don't understand this. Hasn't Christendom been praying the same prayers for centuries and for the very reason, that sometimes in the midst of it, it is difficult to find your own words to pray.

The year or so that I've spent in the UK has been incredible and has gone a long way towards healing much of the trauma I arrived with. I had hoped for longer, but the course of true love never did run fucking smooth. I'll be leaving at the end of spring.

I'm not a Christian so I don't much care for the Lord's Prayer. But, when I hear it, I stay respectfully silent. It's not about me or my opinions. #AnzacDay

@genXalogy @BFI Fantastic. I’ve seen it multiple times and consider it as a masterpiece; it was great to see it as it should be seen, on a big screen. Superb; I became aware of visual signals throughout: Uncle’s whistle, the starting pistol, etc. superb

@Mr_Husky1 Nope. A little spruce up of the things she'd have done if she had time, and fresh milk etc. in the fridge for when she gets in. Like Dingleberry said, nothing invasive.

I had a best friend who recently had a loss in their family. I'm feeding her cats while she is away. Would it be weird if I tidied up her apartment while I'm there? Not that it's dirty! She had to leave in a rush to catch a flight. So like wash the dirty dishes in the sink, wipe down the counters. That type of thing. I feel like if I lost a family member, coming back to a tidy home would take so much weight off my shoulders. Anonymous
