@frociaggini @THR I'm not referring to that. Your comment says no one knows who he is He's an Oscar winner, and one of the major contemporary Hungarian directors. He's not some unknown

@scottyDunham3 @kringrush @MrCfromTP many people havent heard of most movies. De Palma is too famous a filmmaker to have something niche , but those are certainly lesser known

Le Festival de Cannes 2026 se referme ce soir. En 2027, le Festival de Cannes fêtera ses 80 ans, et voici peut-être ce que l’on pourrait retrouver sur la Croisette. #Cannes2027

@JohnDemetry I asked why Shoplifters, Parasite and Anatomy of a Fall, etc. are supposedly among the worst Palme winners ever. Not for your goddamn autobiography, Amazon plug, and pretentious-ass Letterboxd profile.

@ChristerEm @fuzzyyarns 2022 had albert serra , reichardt, Cronenberg, dardenne, etc . How was EO the only watchable one?

The Disapproving Swede @Cannes
@fuzzyyarns Apart from the fact that awards are rubbish, the prix de jury quite often goes to far better films than the two highest awards. Last year was a prime example. EO was the only watchable competition film in 2022. Even Oliveira won it in 1999.

@Tylenol_Enjoyr @DiscussingFilm How many actors his age make an effort to work with the directors he does? Megalopolis is a terrific choice , even as an uneven movie

James Gray’s ‘PAPER TIGER’, starring Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson, and Miles Teller, sadly follows the clichés of every New York crime drama you’ve ever seen. Find out more in our review... discussingfilm.net/2026/05/21/pap…

@spideylumax many established and important filmmakers who started decades before had movies so yes. If your question was about directors who started in the 2020s, it's a different conversation

Pedro Almodóvar declared in #Cannes that "Europe must never be subjected to Trump." "I don't want to judge anyone, but I think artists have to speak out about the situation in which they live in contemporary society. It's a moral duty. Silence and fear is a symptom that things are going badly. It's a serious sign democracy is crumbling. On the contrary, creators must speak out... the worst thing that could happen would be to remain silent or to be censored. We have a moral obligation to speak out... we have to act as a shield against this madness." variety.com/2026/film/news…
