Here's the problem: if we do this, this $11 bathmat will be purchased from some crony for $25 each, only after commissioning a "study" to determine which bathmat, which will cost $10 per mat.
Then we will hire some fraudulent "nonprofit" to distribute them, for about $20 per mat.
Then there will be follow up visits at $50 each to go check on how the bathmats are doing.
Meanwhile, we could just say "find a bathmat and you can get $11 reimbursed" -- but if we did that, there would be 1000 "Bathmat centers" in Portland Maine.

Never mind about the Rolex… had no idea buying one was like buying a Ferrari, where you have to beg, jump though hoops and then buy products you don’t want to get the one you do want! 😂 thought it would be fun to own, but would much prefer to just order something on a website (like a Tesla!) and be done with it. I am surprised the interviewer did not press this point further. It is certainly not true that he does not use email. He just has people do it for him. To say he does not use email is like saying a meat eater has never killed an animal even though the person eats buffalo wings every night. It is a statement that is at best meaningless and at worst dishonest.
If I had dozens of people working for me and millions of dollars I too would swear off email. This has nothing to do with any special insight but a lot of privilege and resources. It means someone books his flights, deals with bureaucracy (much of which happens by email) pays for the things he buys or orders, deals with the paperwork (much of which happens by email). If he had to look for a job, or work in any office, or apply for a visa he would not be able to say this. It is irritating to see a journalist completely fall for this as if it was some sign of virtue. Which major celebrity is typing emails themselves?

Literally nearly everybody’s effective tax rate is small if you account for “wealth”. We don’t pay taxes on 401k growth, real estate value growth, etc. This accounting clearly takes the growth of his Amazon stock value increasing, not just his actual income. Normal Americans also don’t pay taxes when the value of the stocks they own go up

Yes, the United States has the most progressive tax system in the world. The top 1% pay 40% of taxes, the bottom 50% pay 3% of taxes. We can make it even more progressive by zeroing out taxes on the bottom half. It’s a small amount of the total tax revenue but very meaningful to people in this group.
