@ZoeTheBall I did a BBC breakfast outside broadcast in your parents’ garden a few years ago - and your mum extremely kindly offered and made us breakfast. She was so generous and welcoming - I often tell people of this story.

@ok_jnr For the last 10 years I've done my very best to avoid a pregnant pause before the contest begins on BBC One. In recent years we've gone on-air at 2" past 8pm to mitigate the delay from site.

Here's a great BTS view of how the BBC, and Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and Italy's channels opted into the #Eurovision network on Saturday night. Biased-not-biased: the Beeb doing it right, but fascinating to see how else it was... handled! youtu.be/-b3cCWsHsZU

I’m a 46-year old regular guy and I cannot describe just how excited I am about a new @ThatMumboJumbo #HermitCraft video. I’m going to cherish and enjoy every one of those 21 minutes. Thank you Mumbo - for making a middle-aged middle-class man very happy. ☺️😂

@lucyginger I don't suppose you went to St Mark's Middle School in the late 1980s? I did - and sadly moved away from Southampton half-way through my last year there. I can only remember a handful of names (and yours is one of them!)

So fridge switched off at wall, now the element has gone in the oven (one on order) and the dishwasher isn’t draining (old problem know how to fix). It’s that time again just before Christmas where all white goods present themselves as gift ideas… but you can’t not 4 chrimbo

@geoffhouse @R1CH_TL @tuscan_warrior @thenupod But still, todays sub-$500 MikroTik routers outperform $2K "branch office routers" from the major brands as sold 15 years ago, by orders of magnitude. It was in those days that the "hardware assisted router" was invented, today it is not that necessary anymore.

@geoffhouse @R1CH_TL @tuscan_warrior @thenupod a company network. Once it becomes more complicated e.g. because of tunneling or other encapsulations (e.g. PPPoE), or firewalling, this no longer works and the CPU is again involved. For real HW assisted routing you end up in another price category.

@geoffhouse @R1CH_TL @tuscan_warrior @thenupod Routers don't drop packets just because they feel like it (unless you program that explicitly, e.d. using a N'th firewall rule). Routers drop packets either because the output queue is full, or the CPU is overwhelmed.

@pe1chl @R1CH_TL @tuscan_warrior @thenupod Absolutely. But we almost entirely use UDP for broadcast traffic, and on a private network (and non-overloaded links) we were still getting drops. We can fix the symptom with SRT/FEC/ARQ etc … but we shouldn’t have to. ☺️

@R1CH_TL @geoffhouse @tuscan_warrior @thenupod Packet drops are typically not caused by a broken router, but by overloaded links. You should not blame the router but the network planning. Reordering can be cause by the use of ECMP (multipath routing) in the network. TCP handles it really well, for UDP it depends on the app.

@tuscan_warrior @thenupod Used to be the case. #mikrotik routers reorder packets under load, especially with complex mangle rules, so we use them only for internet firewalls now - all private circuit stuff is routed through the #cisco switches.
