I’m grateful every day for this job, but particularly today where my official duties have brought me to Rome on Good Friday. I had a great meeting with Prime Minister Meloni and her team, and will head to church soon with my family in this beautiful city. I wish all Christians all over the world, but particularly those back home in the US, a blessed Good Friday. He died so that we might live.

Well, today’s been interesting! A two-minute clip from my interview with Prof. John Mearsheimer about the Gaza-Israel conflict has stirred up quite the reaction. In the snippet, I raised a question about why Arab countries haven’t taken in Gaza’s 2 million refugees and compared this to the movement of German refugees after World War II. The backlash has been... well colorful. I’ve been labeled everything from ignorant to racist to plain dumb. And yes, I did call some pro-Palestinian activists “insufferable”- a term I stand by for a few particularly vocal critics. Here’s the thing: I can’t convince everyone I’m not dumb or racist. People are entitled to their opinions. But what I can do is provide context. The 20-minute conversation between Prof. Mearsheimer and me dives into this complex issue. It might be worth your time if you’re interested in more than soundbites. I’ve always aimed to create space for tough, often uncomfortable discussions, and this was no exception. Talking to Prof. Mearsheimer, someone I’ve known and respected for years, was a privilege - and yes, he loves a good debate as much as I do.
