UNPOPULAR OPINION: THE CEASEFIRE WILL HOLD, THE WAR IS OVER (And will include Lebanon)

Green Europe in 2027 … no gas but fancy cars

The oil price you see on Google is lying to you The widely quoted Brent crude price sits around $102 a barrel But if you actually needed a tanker full of oil delivered right now, you'd be paying close to $145, a record, and more than double what it cost before the war started The gap between the two prices is now the largest in 20 years, and even energy analysts say they can't fully explain it What they do agree on is that the futures market has completely lost touch with reality on the ground Around 10% of the world's oil supply is still trapped in the Persian Gulf. Gas stations in Vietnam and Thailand have turned customers away. Sri Lanka made Wednesdays a public holiday to cut fuel use The war looks manageable in the headlines, but the spot market tells a completely different story Source: New York Times

🔥 RECESSION AUSTRALIA 🔥 Australia could plunge headfirst into a recession within months with unemployment poised to surge along with inflation, according to startling modelling. Deloitte Access Economics warned of two nightmare scenarios as the war in the Middle East continues. The first mapped out what would happen if the conflict was protracted over a long period, sending oil prices to $US175 a barrel. The unemployment rate could rise from 4.3 per cent to 6.8, with more than one million Australians out of work, while inflation would soar from 3.7 per cent to 7.5, as the country entered a deep recession. The second scenario looked at what would happen if oil reached $US150 a barrel, which several analysts have warned is a likely scenario if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed over the next few weeks. Deloitte forecasted that Australia would fall into recession, inflation would hit 6.6 per cent by the end of the year, and that more than 950,000 workers would be unemployed. Australia was always headed into a full recession regardless of the Iran war. We have been in a per capita recession since 2023.

The world is about 2" away from hitting the wall at full speed and most can't even seen it coming. Imminent energy shortages in parts of the world and for the rest, significantly higher prices. The battle for the physical barrel has begun.

Once your culture is gone, it isn't coming back. If the schools and universities won't teach us the great books of the West, we will do it ourselves. We are forming an independent group dedicated to the study and preservation of the Western canon of literature — the books that built our civilization. If that sounds like something you'd like to be part of, please join us. We tackle a new classic text every month. Currently, we're reading Virgil's Aeneid, and discussing it together. We meet biweekly.
