@Itumbi_Denis Desperate people cannot reason. If you can’t see that as a leader, then this is the only way to make you understand.

The people in Nepal will soon face harsh realities. Sudan never healed, Sri Lanka drowned in crisis. Joblessness multiplies, poverty worsens. Destruction never solves BUT it extinguishes the last embers of hope and traps nations in endless suffering.

My name is Wangeci Alice, For the past few weeks, since I was admitted on 28th March, I’ve been suffering silently … but it’s time to speak up and ask for your support. A day after admission, on the 29th March, I bravely faced my first surgery, which was the separation to prepare for main surgery. I was in pain, but hopeful—because I knew on 5th April, a new journey would start with my hip replacement. But this never happened. SHA failed after the hospital sent the preauthorization. We did this again and again. But no approval. Which meant no surgery. Total silence. They said I wait until 12th April. I waited, broken but hopeful. But 12th came and went like the rest of the days. And now it’s pushed again—to 18th April. Still, no approval. No surgery. I’m still here, in this hospital bed. Day and night. Patient and hopeful. But that is another bill on top of another, daily. With metal rods pulling at my leg. And a hip crying out for relief. It’s a heart tired of waiting.

Congratulations Ruth Chepngetich for setting a new Marathon world record in Chicago. We have reason to celebrate achievements like this as our politicians engage in the tiring nonsense we are all so fed up with.

@wnyakera Irungu, the need for a new airport is not the issue. The issue is the terms put on the table by Adani. You can’t caveat everything for 30 years and then still insist on continuing to earn from an asset you have milked to the end. It is a good deal if the terms are revised

Let’s first agree that we need a new international airport in Nairobi otherwise we lose our regional competitiveness. Instead of a PPP, let’s assume we take a $1.85bn loan (KES 240bn) to build the airport. Even assume we get the loan at 10% interest for 30 years. That means we would be repaying the loan at $17.5mn a month (KES 2.3bn). This presents a huge risk to exchequer should the airport is not able to generate such net revenues. I can’t speak authoritatively on the Adani structure but we all have to accept the need for the state to look for investors to undertake large infrastructure like they did with the expressway. Privatization and PPP should be normalized and not condemned. On Konza, I know I authored a letter years ago regarding setting up of an airport there. But the traffic in Nairobi would not allow for two international airports to be built side by side - Konza could be a good option for relocation/expansion of Wilson Airport.

@citizentvkenya No! - we don’t need a new airport. And if we do, we should not sell our souls for an airport. How many other investors did you ask and what did they say??

Davis Chirchir: We do all agree that we need a new airport, we need a new investment. When visitors arrive, during the El Nino you all appreciate how the whole place was leaking. We need the kind of airports we see in developed economies to be able to create the kind of opportunities by attracting more visitors to our country

@OsoroSylvanus Who said we need a new airport? - we have bigger issues than an airport, can we focus on them first! - cost of living and jobs are a priority and we shouldn’t be sacrificing jobs to India under the guise of an airport we don’t need.

You want & deserve a MODERN AIRPORT. You DO NOT want to PAY taxes. GOK does not want to add you a burden through further borrowing. PPP is LEGAL. Get us another INVESTOR then to facelift the airport. We can't be a NOISY lot with NO SOLUTIONS.

Here is something you should know. To restructure your debts, you must have an IMF programme. The IMF/World Bank co-chair the process. So its either an IMF programme you negotiate or one imposed by creditors lowyinstitute.org/the-interprete…
Ezekiel Oranga@EOranga

@gff_kim @DavidNdii First, I'm no economist (that's important), but one can: 1. Renegotiate loan duration 2. Renegotiate interests (esp if principal is already paid) 3. Apply for cancellation (esp dubious debts or if principal is already paid) 4. Yours. Borrow Paul pay peter 5. All the above.

It is sad that whatever move President Ruto tries to make he always fought. With loans like Eurobond approaching their maturity, whatever move the President makes he receives insults citizens. What should he do to raise finances to repay the loans? Take other loans to finance the old ones(like Uhuru did) or increase the tax base that’s being fought left right & center? The 10 year Eurobond worth,US $2B needs repaying this June.

The government can only meet its responsibilities if it gets funds to operate, and these funds are primarily raised through taxes. Therefore, it is essential for Kenyans to support their government by fulfilling their tax obligations. After that, we expect the government to use the taxes prudently for service delivery. The government owes Kenyans accountability.

This 2024/25 Finance Bill is the one going to be used by the @WilliamsRuto government to get funds. If it fails to pass in Parliament, know that there will be no money for bursaries, health care, construction of roads, provision of water, and other needs. It is important for MPs to debate the bill with sobriety, note that not all clauses therein, are bad, as some of the naysayers have tried to insinuate. The activists being led by some opposition leaders should desist from politicizing the crucial bill in public places, in such a scenario, members of the public may not get to understand the truth.

After a long day of dedicated efforts from members of @LawSocietyofKe across Nairobi, we are happy to inform the public that the protestors are currently being released from Kilimani, Kamukunji and Central Police Stations. The national council is holding vigil at Central Police Station to ensure all those being held at the station are released. Some of our members were at Kilimani Police Station earlier where they have secured the release of the protestors that had been held there. The @lsk_nbi council are at Kamukunji Police Station to ensure release of protesters held there. We call on our members within the vicinity to report to Kamukunji Police Station to assist the team there. We remain steadfast to ensuring the rule of law is not circumvented and the rights of our people respected. We appreciate the support and encouragement from the public, and laud all the brave Advocates who came out today to stand for what is right.
