Let me tell you about Johnny Silverhand's character. Robert John Linder, aka Johnny Silverhand, is a traumatized war veteran with severe narcissistic personality disorder. His trauma from fighting in the Second Central American War combined with the disgust thrown at him by a corrupt liberal American government caused him to be filled with resentment. The PTSD and narcissism combined to make a violent, desperate man who sought meaning to his existence by lashing out at the world around him. He was overall a minor figure in the events around him, but his own delusional nature lead him to remember himself as the hero of the story. Delusions so strong they actively replaced his true memories. He's ultimately a loser. A loser so propelled by his inflated ego and firm (but wrong) belief that Arasaka was after him personally that he got his ex girlfriend, Alt Cunningham, killed. This further stoked his delusions and trauma and ultimately lead him to join the assault on Arasaka Tower, which resulted in over a million dead civilians and accomplished nothing. An assault he was overall a minor figure in, but remembered otherwise due to his narcissism. The point of Johnny's character is he's a delusional loser, but one with a lot of charisma. It's easy to agree with him, but he ultimately knows nothing about the real world or how to actually fix the things which made him so angry to begin with. He just lashes out, blindly, and assumes he's being a hero. His entire arc in Cyberpunk 2077 is realizing this about himself, and depending on the ending, moving on and finally allowing himself to die or try again if V sacrifices himself. And in the best ending, accomplish his old goal without killing millions of innocent people. Johnny is not a good, aspirational character. The whole point is him realizing he's a monster.
