@nerdstakeover Maybe if you swapped the sfx with a sharper, more crashy one it would be more natural. Right now it sounds like the rocks are jumping around on springs imo.

One lesson Taiwan should be learning from both Ukraine and Israel is that if a smaller country is determined to fight hard, it can bloody the nose of a much bigger country.

@nim_chimpsky_ @s8mb My guess is they’re assuming a higher proportion of wind compared to solar, and that they’re counting the clear area between wind turbines as used land too, not just their foundations.

@s8mb I'm curious why this number is so high, because 590,000 square kilometers is 146 million acres, which would provide something like 30,000 GW of solar, which over the course of the year would provide 50,000+ TWh of energy -- 10x our current electricity usage

Startling statistic in “Abundance” here on the land needed to decarbonise America with wind and solar. If you assumed the UK would need 1/5 as much land, for its 1/5 as many people, you’d need 118k sq km, which is half of Britain’s landmass.

🤓 in just 6 years, australia's two main grids added 51 TWh/yr of wind+solar generation. …from 19.9% → 38.8% renewables. …equivalent to 6.6 large nuclear reactors, but much lower cost & much faster. even more impressive given there's no chance of nuclear here for 20+ years.

@ElijaWinter @BenPielstick @robinhanson Good point, but I think that eventually AI will develop some sort of human brain augmentation that will make us as smart as it. After that, we'll be on the same level as it.

@gesundguy @BenPielstick @robinhanson The point is AI will work on the next thing and all the things without us. It won't just be a more powerful tool to better make new things. It's a full on replacement of humanities entire brainpower. Factoring in robots, our labor too.

@BenPielstick @robinhanson The things steam engines or computers could do were unfathomable to people before they were invented. Things like AI have happened dozens of times before, we will simply adjust, and keep working on the next thing.

Everything you love about generative models — now powered by real physics! Announcing the Genesis project — after a 24-month large-scale research collaboration involving over 20 research labs — a generative physics engine able to generate 4D dynamical worlds powered by a physics simulation platform designed for general-purpose robotics and physical AI applications. Genesis's physics engine is developed in pure Python, while being 10-80x faster than existing GPU-accelerated stacks like Isaac Gym and MJX. It delivers a simulation speed ~430,000 faster than in real-time, and takes only 26 seconds to train a robotic locomotion policy transferrable to the real world on a single RTX4090 (see tutorial: genesis-world.readthedocs.io/en/latest/user…). The Genesis physics engine and simulation platform is fully open source at github.com/Genesis-Embodi…. We'll gradually roll out access to our generative framework in the near future. Genesis implements a unified simulation framework all from scratch, integrating a wide spectrum of state-of-the-art physics solvers, allowing simulation of the whole physical world in a virtual realm with the highest realism. We aim to build a universal data engine that leverages an upper-level generative framework to autonomously create physical worlds, together with various modes of data, including environments, camera motions, robotic task proposals, reward functions, robot policies, character motions, fully interactive 3D scenes, open-world articulated assets, and more, aiming towards fully automated data generation for robotics, physical AI and other applications. @MattonioMaximus @ludicrousdefect @Noahpinion What do you mean by the US banning them? All I’ve seen about it is a proposed ban by Biden. Considering that trump is against the TikTok ban, I find it unlikely that it’d be implemented.

No I've never said the Chinese auto industry is collapsing. I dont think it has competitive advantages beyond their government subsidizing more then other countries, and supporting intellectual theft. As well as still a large labor pool to use. Industrial base and so on. But those advantages will only last so long, due to their massive demographic changes within the next 10 years and beyond. I said the chinese governments goal is to out compete the world, in this case its home grown EV companies. I never said it was or will. Large numbers of producing subpar vehicles was an alarm. But it doesnt seem like its going to matter that much to markets that are banning Chinese EVs. Which the US being the largest, has banned them.

Well by definition less competitors is less competition. But what the Chinese governments goal for its EV industry is to remove any chance of competition in markets globally. By heavily HEAVILY subsidizing Chinese brands, and helping them steal intellectual property, they hope to overwhelm other markets with sheer numbers. This is a long term play, and blindly looking at China in a positive way hurts the industry. BTW that was also a pay walled article.

@MattonioMaximus @ludicrousdefect @Noahpinion Also, I’m not looking at this positively lmao, I’m obviously concerned about chinas affect on today’s market, and want western governments to subsidize industries to compete. But I don’t pretend that it’ll be fine and china will just collapse before anything happens

@MattonioMaximus @ludicrousdefect @Noahpinion You were talking about how the Chinese auto industry is collapsing and doesnt have any competitive advantage, now you’re saying they’ll outcompete every other manufacturer on earth and create a global monopoly?

Are you telling me you paid for the subscription and read the whole article? Dont tell me you read the first paragraph and going off only that haha. Yes, Honda wants to compete against US and Chinese rivals in the automobile space. That was true before Nissan merger, and will continue for years and years. But its also happening for other reasons. The one who owns the controlling share of Nissan, Renault, has to make the decision first to sell part of its ownership share. Why is it doing that? First to get cash, better investment rating to get more loans, to then compete against its US, EU, and Asian competitors. Its a competitive market regardless of China haha. Your focusing entirely on the china story, and missing out many other variables. I'll be charitbable and say you are talking only about 1 variable somewhat correctly, in a sea of many variables contributing to the subject.
