Interesting analysis. 🧠 Latency is often overlooked, but this shows how directly it translates into validator performance, particularly through MEV capture and usable slot time. At scale, even small improvements can make a meaningful difference to APR.

Yesterday we put forward EIP-7716 for inclusion in the Hégota hardfork. This EIP briefly increases penalties for validators that go offline en masse. Penalising centralised outages aims to prevent a centralised mass slashings later. Short term pain, long term gain.

Optimum Monetizes Milliseconds ♾ Reading about the impact of latency on validator income, I catch myself thinking that this layer is undervalued. Its believed that the main drivers of income are MEV, fees, and builder efficiency. But all of this boils down to one simple thing whether you made it in time or not. -------------------------------------- A validator lives within a strict time window. Every additional MS is literally an opportunity 〰️To see a higher bid 〰️Make a better decision 〰️Earn more Historical data shows a fairly strong correlation: reducing latency by 50–150 ms can yield up to 2% APR. Not at the expense of risk or a change in strategy, but simply because you are less constrained by the network. ---------------------------------------- @get_optimum addresses this limitation. Without affecting consensus or breaking the architecture, it improves data propagation through the RLNC, giving validators more real time within a slot. The problem isnt that validators are poorly optimized. The problem is that the network itself limits their decisions. @get_optimum does what infrastructure rarely does, transform milliseconds into measurable economic value.♾

FINAL ROUND TREASURE HUNT of @get_optimum🔥 This isnt just a game. Its a test of latency control. @blockchainjeff took luck out of the equation. Everything you have been developing your reaction, your speed, your thinking now matters. No room for error. Latency is your enemy or your weapon. @get_optimum shows who knows how to control it.... The search will begin on April 8th. For this you will need game.gmum.cc 🔎 4 stages - 4 hints. Every 48 hours⚠️ Only the strongest will reach the end: 🟢Phase 1 -First clue drops -Top 100 on leaderboard unlock Hunter Role 🟢Phase 2 -Reach Top 50 to unlock a new clue -And unlock Master Hunter Role 🟢Phase 3 -Reach Top 10 to unlock a new clue -And unlock King of Hunters Role 🟢Phase 4 -Finish #1 on leaderboard -Treasure delivered directly to you🏆 Prizes, roles, recognition and something more for those who make it to the end… Its not about luck, but about the speed of decisions and control over the network.

Lesser known fact, over my career I've been heavily involved in the hardware side of networking in addition to network coding. Having published multiple papers on optical networking and even receiving the Kobayashi award in 2022 for my contributions to the field, I have a unique perspective on how far hardware optimization can take a network and at what point coding becomes the main driver of performance. I bring this up because on Saturday I was on stage at the MIT bitcoin expo discussing the finer points of network optimization with @Austin_Federa . Austin's company @doublezero takes the hardware optimization approach to blockchain scaling, while my team at @get_optimum takes the network coding approach. I thoroughly enjoyed the conversation, and have a few takeaways I think anyone who's interested in pushing the limits of blockchain performance will appreciate. First off, I'm a fan of hardware optimization. Optical networking is interesting and useful for scaling, but I also understand its limitations. Like Austin said during the panel, the goal of hardware optimization is to make scaling a software problem. Give chains the best physical infrastructure available, so that software solutions can be maximally effective running on top. In an ideal scenario this is true, but in a real decentralized network that level of hardware is not going to be universally available, so you need to make the best use of what resources you have. This is what Random Linear Network Coding is built to do. It's decentralized at its core because it optimally uses whatever bandwidth a node has available to speed up data transmission across a network. Put simply, RLNC allows a network to grow without slowing down. While we may have different approaches to scaling, at the end of the day they are compatible. DoubleZero is supplementing the public internet with a reserved backbone for blockchain data, Optimum is building software that makes optimal use of whatever bandwidth a node has available. This is what scaling the whole networking stack looks like, and it's how we build blockchains that can service a full scale digital economy.

The hidden driver of validator revenue is network latency This research by @get_optimum shows that even small reductions in block propagation delay (50–150ms) can materially increase validator APR by improving MEV capture, attestation accuracy, and usable slot time. In practice, faster propagation gives validators more time to observe better bids and make higher-value decisions. As staking becomes more competitive, performance won’t just be about stake size, it’ll be about network efficiency. Lower latency wins.

Making Ethereum healthier AND making validators more money Detailed in our latest research paper, we found that mump2p's 150ms latency reduction can raise network wide head vote accuracy from 98.6% to 98.8-99.1%. Higher accuracy → more reliable, predictable network conditions for Ethereum users (plus some extra ETH for validators & stakers). Lower latency is a win for everyone.

Ethereum just set a new record on April 12, 2026: ~3.6M daily transactions, marking the strongest activity in its history! At the same time, $ETH is still trading ~55% below its all-time high. This creates a notable divergence, because network activity is at peak levels, while price has yet to fully reflect that strength. Historically, such gaps tend to narrow over time. Also, we would like to mention that today, Ethereum stands on one of the strongest foundations it has ever had - record usage, a deeply established ecosystem, and continuous progress in scaling and development. In many ways, this highlights a simple dynamic: price often follows fundamentals, not the other way around. And the fundamentals are already in place. Source: @growthepie_eth

Wanted to point out that the advantages of RLNC over RS have been recognized for a long time now. I've published several peer-reviewed papers analyzing the two codes and RLNC is by far the more performant option for both data movement and storage purposes. This simulator is a great way to see the power of RLNC in action. Research for reference: mit.edu/~medard/mpaper… arxiv.org/html/2603.2042…
