Ah yes, the good old days of the "multimedia" computer. Behold, the CD-ROM, with its vaunted 650MB of storage, more even than your hard drive. Everyone and their dog was making "live action" games for a couple of years. They usually didn't have high production values; often, the "actors" were the game developers themselves or their family and friends and the sets were something that you might expect to find in a Middle School Play. Probably the most infamous one was "Night Trap" which resulted in congressional hearings and congress people feigning moral outage.

@h1th3sh cmux uses libghostty and is a perfect example of what Ghostty is trying to achieve (enabling other terminals). It's a huge success story and there is nothing for us to catch up to. Everyone going to cmux or another libghostty terminal instead of Ghostty would be great.

My daughter just asked me how to shutdown windows using only her keyboard, and no mouse, and I’ve never been more proud!

@cmuratori @digitalfoundry Thanks Casey. I think the echo chamber dogpiling is less interesting than the conversations about what people do and do not find interesting about DLSS 5. I’m especially curious to hear from artists and game devs to hear their opinions.

Just wanted to mention: I watch @digitalfoundry regularly. I saw their DLSS 5 video when they posted it. It was actually the first time I saw DLSS 5. While I was surprised they liked it - since in my opinion it did not look good - that's one of the reasons I watch other people's shows. If I only wanted to hear my own opinions of things, I'd just watch my own channel :) I know it's stressful when a large percentage of your audience is mad about something. I can absolutely understand why Digital Foundry wanted to backpedal a bit on their initial strongly-favorable coverage. But for that same reason, I felt like I should take this opportunity to say: I watch Digital Foundry regularly. I was happy to see their initial coverage of DLSS 5. I had no problem with it, and I couldn't care less if their opinion about it differs from mine. If anything, that's a plus. And furthermore, it seems like both @dark1x and @Dachsjaeger weren't as enthusiastic about it. That actually makes me look forward to more coverage on the channel, since having both people who like and who dislike DLSS 5 should make for some great videos!

@renderful @mitchellh I see. I just alt+shift+tab the workspace to another monitor or alt+<N> the windows to the workspace on the other monitor. The latter would likely lose the layout which would be annoying. Might be worth using Wezterm if the float-by-default for ghostty doesn't work for you.

@ghbaker @mitchellh So I don't have to manage all the separate windows when I want to move it all to another screen or virtual desktop.

There's such a deep misunderstanding out there about tmux and I get so many absurd issue reports demonstrating that. Many don't realize that using them is like running a Windows VM on your Mac, and complaining to Apple that iCloud sync isn't working from Windows in the VM. They are super powerful and have their use and I am happy to support them in any way I can. I'm not anti-multiplexer, but I wish more people understood the architecture a bit more.

@renderful @mitchellh I just open a new window instead of a tab, and because I’m using a window manager, I get two terminals side-by-side. Is there a functional difference between doing that vs using Ghostty tabs?

@crisisofconsc That sounds like an absurd situation, and everyone in my friend group who would have done that has slowly been phased out over the years.

If someone asks you to loan them $3000 & you agree because it’s a close friend, are they justified in getting angry with you because you can’t get it to them fast enough when they asked you the night before they need it after the bank is closed and you can’t digitally transfer it because the bank thinks it’s fraud and you can’t call them to approve the transaction because it’s outside of business hours now since they asked at 6pm. Asking for myself.

Not long ago, we thought this might be impossible. But here we are: our Gaussian Splatting videos are now streamable, just like regular video. No download, no app. 4DGS plays instantly in the browser on headsets, phones and laptops, with no limits on splats or length. Give it a try: store.gracia.ai

@agarypidis @vkrajacic I find the UI design of Sublime 4 to be too flat and for some reason I struggle with it. Absent that I’d still be using it. I’ve got a paid license.

@dhh I was looking on Threads and Bsky for someone I used to follow on X and Bsky is so snappy while threads took multiple seconds to do a simple search. It makes a huge difference. I miss fast UI that don’t move all around as data loads in. Looking at you Home Depot and Lowe’s.
