The woman featured in this Generative AI for Good project, Maral, is a real person. She was interviewed by Azadeh, and her voice was recorded directly from that testimony. An AI avatar was then created to help protect her identity while preserving her story. This is her authentic voice and lived experience, not fabricated content. “Hearing Their Voices” is a global initiative by Generative AI for Good that uses ethical AI avatars to safely amplify testimonies of survivors of conflict-related sexual violence while protecting their identities. All testimonies featured in the videos were collected ethically and with informed consent. I’ve also had the opportunity to speak with @shiraniml and learn more about this tool, which has created a safer way for survivors to share testimony without putting themselves at further risk. I’m grateful to Azadeh, Shiran Mlamdovsky Somech, and Maral for their important work and I think you owe them an apology and retraction.
