Sleep masks are probably still my favorite cheap item that improves quality of life, but I just discovered electric insect bite treatment devices, and they're surely a contender. Maybe everyone else already knows about them, but a short (3 sec) application of heat with one of these things appears to immediately cure the irritation of mosquito bites. (~100% success rate for me.) I'm not sure how well understood the mechanism is, but I guess it denatures the proteins that cause the irritation..? @vidythatte So you write the function and parameter descriptions directly into the system prompt instead of as "tools"? Do you still use the JSON schema for the functions or just describe them and their parameters in plain english?

pro tip: if you're building ai agents don't use function calling, just use structured outputs. you're welcome.

@Mat_Zo I don't understand this take. I see things going in the exact opposite direction. AI will result in real-world problems being solved more effectively than ever before, meaning art and storytelling will be all that we have left and more important than ever.

AI won't make better music than people but it will destroy the way we perceive and value art to the point where it doesn't matter. We're entering a future where art and music for their own sake will be perceived as selfish hedonism, and that's what will kill art, not AI itself
