I never learned to write assembly language properly, only improperly. With modern AI, my lifetime of slacking on this is paying off.

I wrote a function in 4 completely different ways, one of them using NEON SIMD which should be several times faster. But all four were the same speed. The reason is the compiler figured out what I was doing and converted them all into the same NEON SIMD code. What bothers me is that I know how it could've figured out the easiest non-NEON alternative, but I'm flabbergasted that it could've figured out the trickiest one. I keep reading the original code and the ARM machine code produced by the compiler and I still can't believe it. Anyway, that's what I'm doing this Friday night.
