China for the first time recognized Russia as an "aggressor" in Ukraine China has decided to abandon the practice of "abstention" in voting at the UN on documents with strong wording regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Chinese delegation voted for the resolution of the General Assembly, where Russia is called the "aggressor", follows from the data published by the Icelandic representation in the UN. Document A/77/L.65 "Cooperation between the UN and the Council of Europe" refers to the "unprecedented challenges" facing Europe "after the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, and before that against Georgia". The resolution also calls for "repairing the damage" caused to the victims of Russian military aggression and "bringing to justice all those who are guilty of violating the norms of international law." In addition to China, Kazakhstan and all other post-Soviet republics, except for Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, voted in favor of the document (they abstained).
