Although we don’t yet have the details about the motives behind last night's shooting at the White House Correspondents Dinner, it’s incumbent upon all us to reject the idea that violence has any place in our democracy. It’s also a sobering reminder of the courage and sacrifice that U.S. Secret Service Agents show every day. I’m grateful to them – and thankful that the agent who was shot is going to be okay.

HE IS A HERO 👑 He Was Burning Alive… But Saved Everyone First — Why Did It Take 16 Years to Honor Him? On October 17, 2005, in the chaos of war, Alwyn Cashe did something almost impossible. His vehicle exploded. Fuel soaked his body. Flames took over. He escaped… but turned back. Again and again and again. Six times, he ran into the fire—pulling out soldiers and an Iraqi interpreter, even as his own skin burned. When rescue came, he refused evacuation until every man was safe. Severely burned, his first words were simple: “How are my boys?” He died weeks later. It took 16 years—and an act of Congress—before he received the Medal of Honor in 2021. Why do some heroes wait to be seen? Credit : African Echo

During the War , the Rhodesians would often hold “demonstrations of power” to the local villagers. The idea was to awe them with Rhodesian military power and thus dissuade them from joining the freedom fighters

This is the uniform Yoweri Kaguta Museveni wore for 5 years while fighting in the bush during the war that brought him to power in Uganda 🇺🇬 Museveni has stated that during the five-year war, he often wore the same gear due to the scarcity of supplies in the Luwero Triangle. This attire has become a central part of his political identity, symbolising the "liberation struggle." He occasionally dons similar military uniforms today during national events to emphasize his role as a former guerrilla leader

ILLEGAL MINING -MUTARE RIVER A major crackdown along the Mutare River has forced illegal miners, including Chinese nationals, to flee into nearby mountains as security forces moved in on alluvial gold mining sites. The Provincial Joint Operations Command—comprising the Zimbabwe National Army, Zimbabwe Republic Police, and State Security—targeted unlawful mining activities that have been degrading the river and polluting water sources. Key developments: 🔹 12 excavators believed to have been used by foreign nationals were recovered near the Beaulie area, concealed in thick bush. 🔹 At Champion Mine, a wash plant, generator, and submersible pump were seized. Three suspects—including two private security guards—were arrested and are now in police custody. 🔹 Eight people were arrested for criminal trespass at Chikanga Farm. 🔹 A range of mining equipment was seized, including gas blowers, submersible pumps, generators, shovels, and heavy-duty hammers. 🔹 An unregistered liquor outlet was also discovered and shut down. Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed that all recovered excavators remain under armed police guard at the sites. Why this matters: The District Water and Sanitation Subcommittee has long raised concerns over cyanide used in alluvial mining, which pollutes river bodies and has caused livestock deaths. Communities downstream depend on the Mutare River for drinking water, irrigation, and livestock. This operation is a welcome intervention to protect our water sources and hold illegal miners accountable. #CrackdownOnIllegalMining #ProtectingOurWaterSources #MutareRiver #Manicaland #Zimbabwe

ZIMRA 9-Day Grace Window for Tax Disclosure. The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority has granted taxpayers a nine-day grace period to voluntarily disclose any undeclared income or outstanding tax obligations for the 2025 year of assessment, under its Voluntary Disclosure Programme. The initiative allows individuals and businesses to regularise their tax affairs without penalties, provided full disclosure is made before the deadline. However, interest will still apply, and failure to comply after the deadline may result in full enforcement, audits, and possible prosecution.
