Secretary Rubio has spoken clearly and forcefully about the threat the ICC poses to the United States. The U.S. is not a party to the Rome Statute, the document that founded the Court. The Court’s continued assertion of jurisdiction over U.S. nationals, including our brave servicemembers, threatens the rule of law in the United States and is an affront to our democracy. We have made that point clearly and repeatedly. We will work with our allies to do everything in our power to protect our citizens and our sovereignty. Period.
