@Grady_Booch Was giving a presentation about our software development process to the FDA, years ago, and head of Quality told me I wasn’t allowed to use the term “artifacts”.

We live in a world exquisitely dependent on computing, with artifacts that range from the profoundly simple to the staggeringly complex. Nonetheless, its fundamental concepts are still within the grasp of every person touched by its possibilities. Abstraction, algorithms, decomposition, and patterns are at the center of computational thinking. Here you'll find these and other concepts that are part of computing's foundations. booch.com/computing/conc…

God has a great sense of humour. All the energy I had getting back to the office, kickstarting 2025, I have had to clear my diary as I am so sick. Headache, temperature, dizzy, flu I presume. God obviously has other plans for me!

@EvanKirstel Similar statistics back in 1990s when hardware companies were jumping boldly into software solutions as the new panacea. Poor definition of customer requirements often blamed. Shiny objects also a key factor.

AI is currently one of the hottest topics for those looking to invest in “the next big thing”. But according to research by the RAND Corporation, over 80% of these AI projects will fail — which is twice the failure rate for non-AI technology-related startups. The global policy think tank talked to 65 data scientists and engineers who have been working in the artificial intelligence sector over the past years, and they’ve determined several causes that lead to this massive failure rate. tomshardware.com/tech-industry/… #AI #ML #ArtificialIntelligence #MachineLearning #GenAI #VMwareExplore

If you’re doing anything public, you should never have anything mailed to where you live. If you violate that even once, it’s likely that your name and associated address will end up in company or government databases. Those mailing lists are then rented and traded as revenue streams, and it all ultimately ends up searchable. Remember the story of the Austin YouTubers hunted in their own home? Don’t be them. For safety, unless you want to take huge risks, use a UPS Store or other off-site mailing address for everything. This is a must-have, not a nice-to-have.

William James, one of the founders of pragmatism and American cognitive science, on civic duty + "knowing true" individuals. Louis Menand discusses this quote + the role pragmatism has played in shaping American values in his book, "The Metaphysical Club." It seems like a good time to recommit to civility, integrity, innovation + flourishing.

Say, who are you that mumbles in the dark? And who are you that draws your veil across the stars? The power in Langston Hughes' poem, Let America Be America Again, conveys spectacularly in this reading by Willie Jennings. ht @BeineckeLibrary youtube.com/watch?v=jMi8Jy…

@chasejarvis Truth. Need those 2nd and 3rd followers… To the original point, I’ve seen the team turn it over on downs…or otherwise caving to the status quo.

@gkeyes31 Yep, but that’s picking up the ball after the team has run 99 yards with it… Most of the lone genius shit is a myth. And even in the rare occasion that it’s true… It takes a village to get the word out.

The myth of the lone creative genius is mostly a that - a myth. Most great work happens in collaboration with others.

Religions tend to idealize and protect the status quo or the supposedly wonderful past, yet what we now see is that they often focus on protecting their own power and privilege. God does not need our protecting. tinyurl.com/mjfp2uc8 #DailyMeditations Photo by @JennaKeiper

Hiding likes was a good move by @elonmusk. I "like" posts not necessarily to say that I agree, but to say that I value the post, even if I disagree. Other people use the like-option differently. This inevitably leads to misunderstandings. I am glad it's no longer possible.
