@ilyamiskov Sadly true. Took me a decade (literally) to find someone with true visual taste. They might lack in the other areas, but that's why you complement them with a super solid UX designer and the combo is unbeatable.

It’s astonishing how so few designers actually have great visual taste. For the past decade we’ve all been taught that all you need is ux, research, analytics and understanding the market, and all the visual craft and eye candy has been forgotten.

@tomjohndesign I can't heart this tweet enough. The joy this brings both sides (eng/prod) is immeasurable.

Design hack: Set up an hour long meeting once a week, or at least once a sprint with your dev team just to go through and fix all of the tiny UI details that could be better. All of the things that would never get prioritized in a Sprint planning. All of the things that maybe a user would never notice. All of the things that might have been missed in original implementation or just don't align since they were first built. Change colors, update icons, improve hover states, fix overflow issues, add better tooltips, make shadows better, cleaner alignments, fix typography bugs, move a pixel here, change a hex there. No tickets. No backlog. No user stories. No business justification. Nothing that takes more than an hour (or close to it). Just craft. You'll love your product more. Your team will get a chance to jam with no expectations or KPIs. I thought it would be nit-picky at first, would give the impression of busywork, but my team is as motivated by it as I am. It helps clean up old code, unify implementation, and get exposure to features that they may not have worked on. Cleaner code. Cleaner UI. Cleaner product. Tiny improvements, huge gain.

@MattMickiewicz I used to think so, then turns out a lot of incredibly talented software engineers use Hotmail, yahoo, etc. Case closed.

Is it wrong to disqualify a job applicant for using a Yahoo email address (for a role that requires being at the bleeding edge of tech)?

@levelsio I'm wondering if there's some simple AI you can layer in to help with vetting/ranking. A simple example being grading written English ability (the first qualifier that stood out on the first few profiles).

How much $ should I charge companies to access remoteok.com/workers? It’s almost 600,000 profiles now where companies can recruit from and been free until now

@AdamRackis The best part is admitting they weren't even disciplined for it and still won't be.

Dude admitted his low- and mid-level managers are so disconnected and incompetent that workers can get away with not opening their laptops for a month 🫣 finance.yahoo.com/news/ceo-says-…

@levelsio I think it's moreso there will be less programmers and the skilled ones working for multiple clients at a time since it'll be more doable than today.

If you aren't telling your teams on Monday to learn how to harness AutoGPT to do their jobs 10x faster, I don't know what you're doing right now 😛

If you want to be a great product manager you'll need to also become: * A mediocre designer who can draw mock ups * Reasonably competent in understanding technology If you cannot communicate effectively with designers (UX/UI) or developers, you'll never win.

@byosko Seems to be to help deal with managing people remotely being more time consuming due to needing to be more intentional about holding people accountable (a good thing).

I'm seeing a growing trend in founders hiring for a Chief of Staff (in big and small startups.) Anyone else seeing this? Any thoughts? I want to dig in and learn more!

I feel like we're pretty close to seeing a major shift in creative/media production workflows. Small teams of badass creatives/technologists popping up, building on a foundation of AI from day one, developing new workflows, systems, and production pipelines that'll 100x the output of any competitor not embracing AI. Writing, storyboarding, filmmaking. Right now, a writer can visualize a script in @midjourney, storyboard it out, narrate the dialogue in the voice of any actor, and even animate the scenes together, all with very minimal effort. Now imagine a tool built to make that workflow even simpler. Bringing a story to life has never been so easy. Editorial photography. Fashion/lifestyle/interior magazines embracing AI in the creative process to visualize ideas, moodboard, and plan for shoots will save a significant amount of time and money. Entirely new magazines, like Midjourney's own magazine, and channels around every niche aesthetic you can imagine will likely begin to pop up and gain large followings. New media empires will be born. Game studios. text-to-3D, text-to-texture, NeRFs with @LumaLabsAI, in engine plugins, and it'll keep getting better and better. Small teams will be able to crank out assets and even use AI to build entire games. A small team might be able to push out hundreds of AAA concepts/demos a year. Even Midjourney will eventually be generating 60fps full volumetric 3D. Web design, UX, UI, branding. Tiny AI-enabled agencies will be able to generate award-winning designs and copy in minutes at insanely competitive rates. Or, a tool like what @mckaywrigley built will be used by the client and AI will do everything for them. Generative AI changes everything, and the quality of the media it generates is improving at an insane rate. We haven't seen many of these teams pop up yet, but I'm willing to bet we do very soon.
