The World Health Organization recently released new data on trends in body mass index, updating all countries to 2022. The previous data only went up to 2016. The share of adults with a BMI of 25 or more — considered overweight or obese — varies widely among high-income countries, from 24% in Japan to 79% in Chile.

Foreign tourism has fallen off a cliff. This is a $100B domestic industry largely concentrated in NYC, southern Florida, southern California, and Las Vegas. Hotels, airlines, restaurants, and tour guides are already feeling the pain.

One thing that grinds my gears more than it likely should is the inconsistent date formats used in Canada. I never fucking know what 7/10/25 or 12/1/23 means. Unless the day is higher than 12, you never ever know.

@Verbalfury 100%. Canada is supposed to be DD/MM/YY but I’ve seen folks at work go YY/MM/DD (like a lot of Europeans) or even copy the US and go MM/DD/YY which is just insane.

@doctimcook @HSJnews Sorry to say it’s no different in 🇨🇦. I’m not sure where “it” ends but I’ll retire before “it” grinds me down any further.

2020 thru 2021 WORK HARDER SAVE pandemic LIVES!! 2022 thru 2024 WORK HARDER SORT THE 7.5 million WAITING LIST 2024 thru 2025 WORK HARDER …. WITH LESS YOU ARE WASTEFUL SAVE BILLIONS. Nowhere in this is a focus on SAFETY, yet all around us we see evidence of systemically eroding safety with staff working desperately to maintain safety….yet being the first to be blamed when patients come to harm. Where does it end?

Outgoing NHSE chair Richard Meddings says it is his final NHSE board meeting in London [and last altogether?] - gives a long summary of key changes during his time - says focus of NHSE role is "managerial and operational", as well as feeding into govnt

Friendly reminder that "somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known" is not a quote from Carl Sagan but rather was written about him. The folks at Quote Investigator have a great breakdown of the real attribution for that line: buff.ly/3i0Ef2r

🧵regarding the introducer sheath commonly known as a 'Cordis' catheter. We'll go over what it was originally designed for and why it ended up being adopted by other specialties for entirely different reasons. Also we'll look at its accessories and see what's inside one. (1/ )
