29 years ago, on that dark cold night, thousands of Lithuanians stood unarmed against Soviet tanks & defended our reborn Independence. It came at a high cost: 14 were killed, around 700 injured. Remembrance bonfires illuminate the sky of Vilnius tonight. Our gratitude is eternal.

This was Vilnius this evening during those fateful days in 1991.
