I haven’t bought into the “extreme high carb” craze that’s hitting endurance sports. Some of it is a bit overkill. Harmful? Probably not. Necessary? Also, probably not. I run fasted 3 times per week for easy runs 70–100 minutes. Or if I fuel, I’ll take in 20-40 grams of CHO for the entire run (+ hydrate). If I’m running long (2+ hours) or running hard (threshold pace or faster), I’ll take in ~60 grams per hour. If I’m doing a marathon-specific session, I’ll use 70–80 grams per hour. But I don’t find the need to fuel easy-intensity and shorter runs (<80 minutes) and feel like this doesn’t compromise my performance so long as I refuel after (duh) and sufficiently.
