“On approach to Andromeda” is a visualization of what you might see outside our own galaxy with the foreground stars removed!

The beautiful Trifid Nebula, also known as Messier 20, lies about 5,000 light-years away, a colorful study in cosmic contrasts. Trisected by dust lanes the Trifid itself is about 40 light-years across and a mere 300,000 years old.

Spiral galaxy NGC 4565 is viewed edge-on from planet Earth. Also known as the Needle Galaxy for its narrow profile, bright NGC 4565 is a stop on many telescopic tours of the northern sky, in the faint but well-groomed constellation Coma Berenices.

I spent two years imaging and processing a high resolution multi panel mosaic of the horsehead and flame nebula in Orion, using the @planewaveinstruments CDK14! After countless hours, I’m finally ready to present it, I hope you enjoy it! Copyright Good Astronomy/ Steve Timmons

This is my real first light with my Sigma 65mm f2! It had to be done on the Milkyway Core from La Palma and its of course an HaRGB Mosaic with lots of exposure time :) I think the overall look and feel is even better than my 135mm pano from La Palma.

@massimoottavia8 Correct! This object is a few thousand light years away, so my scope is seeing it as it was in the past. Trippy huh?

@goodastronomy If I understand correctly we are looking at the past. Right? It's very strange, like the whole universe. Or multiverse?

@RamAn345 Good question! I liken it to terrestrial photography, where at a certain distance away the lens can focus most anything (typically the infinity mark)

@goodastronomy Spectacular I have a question When such an image is “focused” What does “focus” actually mean in something which depth is comprised of light years apart objects? I mean We all know that there is actually not that object but a 2D rendition of timestars

@fossil_bluff Thanks! It took about 4 months of shooting every clear night!
