Cancer's been a brutal opponent—and an unexpected teacher. Every day, I stare down this radiation machine. Some days it burns me. Every day it drains every ounce of energy I have left. But you know what? It's teaching me what really matters: My team? They just made State—for the first time in 40 years. And the kicker: I barely ran with them. Culture beats cancer. My wife? She's holding everything together while I get leveled by radiation. She's the true MVP, and my team knows it. They even call her their "favorite Siemers" now. And my people? My principal. Adjusting my schedule around treatments. My fellow coaches. Driving buses. Covering for me at practice. They showed up. Cancer's tried to strip me down, but it's also handed me unexpected gifts: The sunrise on the track. The pride in my runner's eyes. The skill of my MD Anderson team. I swore to my wife—no "woe is me." Not after my diagnosis, not after my surgery, not even when radiation ripped my stitches. Why? Because mindset isn't a buzzword. It's the only way I know to take on the hardest race of my life. Fuck cancer. But thank you for the lessons.

Today we return to Houston after living in the Netherlands for 3 years. Despite the challenges—and some were significant—we trusted God and leaned in to our time there, so much so that we are sad to leave behind our European friends and our Dutch way of life. It was “gezellig.”

School districts across Texas are feeling the squeeze of no new funding since 2019 against a backdrop of record inflation. Our state allocated $5B to public education but passed no bill to give it to schools. We have a record surplus in the state’s coffers. @GovAbbott needs to call a special session! Call our Gov and let him know we need a special session! @SBISD

I applaud President @JCHartzell for his leadership in adhering to University rules and regulations to protect students and the First Amendment.   Anti-Semitic conduct is unacceptable here in Texas.   President Hartzell's stance sets an example for other university leaders that our fundamental right to free speech does not excuse intentional violation of University rules, regulations, laws or the rights of other students.     These campus takeovers need to end immediately so students can safely finish this semester unimpeded by people who are proven to be outside agitators.   We must remain resolute in combating this reprehensible, alarming and anti-Semitic behavior from extremists at the University of Texas and universities across America. #txlege #hd133

SBISD has always been “ahead of the curve” w/ its laser focus on “T-2-4”—that is, students will attain a technical cert, military training or a 2-yr or 4-yr degree.
