One detail from this story: the AI finding credentials laying around. I have moved to scrub all credentials stored anywhere in plaintext on my system. No more .env, no more ~/.aws/credentials, etc. I use fnox with a 1password backend.

ya tbh will brute force and find a way to do something the only fool proof method is don’t store anything you don’t want an agent actually trying to use during a “session” Sandboxing, time limited keys, more granular scoping on keys etc. Just gotta operate under the assumption that AI will use anything it can “see” or “access”
