Low water levels across the Chorley reservoirs has resulted in several waders making (in some cases rare) appearances in recent days - Grey Plover, Common Sand, Sanderling, Ringos, LRP and this Turnstone (nice find by @googl_phil)
Look at this prick deliberately and repeatedly disturbing the Lower Rivington Res gull roost (3.30pm 27/11/24). Is this behaviour against red and amber listed birds tolerated on your reservoirs @unitedutilities?
Cape Town Tour 3/9. Yet another wonderful pelagic: Great views on Ashy, Black-browed & Indian YN Albatrosses; Northern Giant Petrels, Spectacled Petrel, Sabine's Gulls, Great Shearwaters, Arctic Terns & Bank Cormorants but also Humpback & Southern Right Whales
A very accommodating Black Redstart from Winter Hill this morning and a stunning Male Merlin that briefly posed for a record shot on Holcombe Moor this afternoon.
Spithami autumn passed 2 million yesterday and today another 150,000 migrating wildfowl were added. 15 000 Velvets passed the spit in a single day. Huh.
@googl_phil It’ll be a long time before I start taking Lancs Cattle Egrets for granted, Phil. Really enjoyed the flock of 32 at MMWWT last week. Just wish they’d start penetrating east Lancs with some regularity.
Stunning evening walk up Winter Hill made better after finding two Black Redstarts on the drystone walls near the Mast compound! With it being so quiet, several Red Grouse were also calling
Greenish Warbler is a prize find when the wind blows from the east in early autumn. We document the life and times of this attractive leaf warbler: bit.ly/2XKBgmV
Never seen this before today - a Red Squirrel carrying a kit (quite a large one!) in its mouth. Part of a superb day's birding in the Speyside sunshine with @BirdingSi - Crested Tits, Crossbills (probably Common), Golden & White-tailed Eagles and more #squirrels
